Overview
Varese knows what it's doing when it seeks to take its creations out of the usual motorcycle dealership circuit. The Italian manufacturer multiplies collaborations with brands that have, on the face of it, nothing to do with tarmac. TheArsenal is the perfect example: an ultra-selective curation platform where submarines, automotive prototypes, space-grade watches, and bicycles worth several thousand euros coexist. A playground for collectors whose wallets have no concept of a ceiling. It is into this singular catalogue that the Dragster 800 RR slipped, in the form of a unique example marked 001/001.

One machine. Not a limited series, not a restricted run: a single unit produced, identified by a small plate bolted to the handlebar clamp support. The rest of the build remains in the cosmetic register, but carefully executed. The citrus hue cuts through the dark liveries that typically dominate the segment, and the carbon elements added here and there give the silhouette that extra visual density expected of a collector's piece. Quick-release fuel cap, anodized sport brake and clutch levers, specific lateral covers: nothing revolutionary, but each detail serves as a reminder that this is no ordinary transaction.
Beneath the bodywork, the mechanics remain those of the production Dragster 800 RR, and that is no criticism. The 798 cc three-cylinder develops 140 horsepower at 12,300 rpm for 87 Nm of torque at 10,100 rpm, all housed in a steel tubular trellis frame connected to aluminum plates. At 168 kg dry, the machine belongs to that category of roadsters that don't think twice before attacking a corner. The claimed top speed of 244 km/h is consistent with such a rev-hungry engine, fed through a six-speed gearbox that has little tolerance for clumsy inputs. Against a Speed Triple 1200 RS or a Z900 RS, the MV plays in a different register: less displacement, but a mechanical density and a soundtrack that its Japanese or British rivals simply cannot replicate.
The problem with this TheArsenal version is precisely its fate. A Dragster 800 RR in its natural state is destined for a rider who wants to carve lines and deploy the 320 mm Brembo brakes mid-corner. This one, with its 001/001 plate and its confidential price tag that sees it rubbing shoulders with aircraft and NASA-spec watches in the same catalogue, is condemned to end up behind glass. The 811 mm seat height, the Ø 43 mm upside-down fork, and the monoshock with 125 mm of travel will probably never see a wet road. That is the paradox of these special editions that transform a riding tool into a mechanical sculpture: the machine gains in heritage value what it loses in primary purpose.
The intended audience is therefore not the rider in search of track thrills. It is the collector who wants a piece at the crossroads of industrial design and Italian engineering, capable of holding its own in a space alongside extraordinary objects. For that profile, the Dragster RR TheArsenal ticks every box. For everyone else, the production version at €25,000 remains an already compelling proposition — and that one, at least, you can actually ride.
