Overview

When someone orders a motorcycle at 25,000 euros and then asks the factory to cover it in gold, one can legitimately question their priorities. Not their fortune, which is evidently comfortable, but what they actually expect from a two-wheeled machine. The MV Agusta 800 Dragster RR Gold was born from this singular commission, somewhere between collector's object and deliberate provocation on wheels.

MV Agusta 800 DRAGSTER RR Gold

Varese delivered what the client wanted, without restraint. The tank, the side panels, the spoke-style wheels that replaced the traditional spoked rims, the aluminum plates of the trellis frame: everything, or nearly so, received this golden treatment that leaves no one indifferent. The rest was finished in its own way — carbon on the structural components, embossed seat with contrast stitching, specific levers and mirrors. MV Agusta plays coy about the full list of modifications, which is rather amusing for a motorcycle that looks like an oversized wrestling trophy.

What deserves attention is that beneath this extravagant exterior, the mechanics have not been touched. The 798 cc three-cylinder with its 140 horsepower at 13,100 rpm and 86 Nm at 10,100 rpm remains strictly standard. That is already plenty for a roadster weighing 168 kg dry, with a high seat height of 811 mm and a character no one would describe as docile. The base Dragster RR is a physical, feisty motorcycle, designed for riders who like their machine to respond with conviction. The Brembo dual 320 mm front disc brakes, the wide 200-section rear tyre, the well-spaced six-speed gearbox: the Gold edition inherits all of this unchanged.

We are therefore faced with a hybrid object — thoroughbred roadster at heart, statement of wealth on the surface. It is difficult to judge this approach on a technical level since there is nothing to critique on that front. Aesthetically, opinions will be sharply divided, and that is precisely the point. The Ducati Monster 821 or the Triumph Street Triple RS compete in the same sporting category with comparable mechanical credentials, but neither would offer this level of ostentation on demand. It is simply not their culture.

The MV Agusta 800 Dragster RR Gold is not a motorcycle for everyone, and not only because of its price. It targets a very specific profile: the collector who wants to ride, the enthusiast who refuses restraint, the person for whom a motorcycle is as much a style accessory as a riding tool. The claimed 245 km/h top speed will likely remain theoretical for the majority of potential owners. What matters is the effect produced at idle outside a café, engine ticking over, gold catching the sun. For that, the mission is accomplished with formidable efficiency.
