Overview
In 2011, as Japanese and Italian manufacturers engaged in a horsepower war within a very structured sporting segment, MotoCzysz released a sledgehammer to crack a nut. The C1 990 resembles nothing known, and for good reason: it started from a blank sheet of paper with an obsession, weight. Achieving 158 kg dry weight with an inline four-cylinder engine of 990 cc is the kind of bet that makes traditional engineers smile. The five-kilogram carbon fiber frame is not an accessory; it is the backbone of a radical philosophy where every gram is an enemy. With 220 horsepower at 15000 rpm, the power-to-weight ratio borders on obscenity, promising accelerations that must warp reality.

This engine is a piece of watchmaking under pressure, literally. 10-bar injection and a four-stroke architecture with a single overhead camshaft betray a search for pure efficiency, far from conventional solutions. A bore of 82 mm for a short stroke of 46.9 mm is the signature of an engine designed to rev high and fast, a high-revving killer that must unleash its 108.5 Nm of torque with rare vehemence. Liquid-cooled and paired with a six-speed gearbox, it powers a motorcycle whose wheelbase of 1420 mm announces a wasp-like agility.
The chassis is a catalog of eccentric ideas. The “6X Flex” rear suspension with its aluminum swingarm and adjustable pivot concentric with the transmission output shaft is a typical mechanical invention of the Czysz spirit. It is paired with a double-spring Öhlins shock absorber with regressive damping. At the front, the choice of a single disc braked by a radial monoblock Brembo caliper is an act of faith in mass transfer and weight loss, just like the 16.5-inch rims shod with tires of unusual dimensions. This motorcycle concedes nothing to compromise.
With a 78 cm seat height and a 7.5-liter tank, the C1 990 was never designed for touring. It is a laboratory machine homologated for the road, a concentrate of raw technology that communicates with the rider through immediate and probably demanding sensations. It is aimed at the technophile collector, the aesthete of radical mechanics, or the rider seeking a track weapon so unique that it becomes bewildering. Finding a MotoCzysz C1 990 for sale today is akin to the quest for the Holy Grail, and its price, if already high at the time, has become that of a museum piece. It is less a motorcycle than a manifesto, proof that a small American manufacturer could, for the duration of a model, shake the certainties of an entire industry.
