Overview

Kymco has never really pretended to be anything other than what it is: a pragmatic Taiwanese manufacturer, capable of producing solid machines without seeking to revolutionize the genre. With the AK Premium 2025, however, the brand plays a different score. This 550 cm³ maxi-scooter settles into a very competitive segment, facing the Yamaha TMAX, Honda Forza 750 or Kymco itself with its own references. The question is not whether it is beautiful — it is, with a taut line that breaks with the usual roundness of the genre — but whether it deserves its place in this courtyard.

Kymco AK Premium

The four-stroke twin-cylinder engine develops 50 horsepower for 52 Nm of torque, available at 5750 rpm. It's not a bomb, and that's intentional. The TMAX 560 plays in the same power waters, but Kymco focuses on accessibility. This engine is suitable for an A2 license, which clearly orients the target audience: the recently confirmed rider, who wants to move from the urban scooter to something more substantial without being overwhelmed by their machine. Nevertheless, an experienced touring rider will not be out of their element on this machine either.

The 238 kg fully fueled represents a correct weight in the category, without being light. The 41 mm inverted fork and the lateral hydraulic mono-shock promise healthy handling, but it's on the road that we will truly judge the management of this mass. The 14.5-liter tank offers reasonable autonomy for mixed city-road journeys, without falling into excess or scarcity. Braking is ensured by a disc at each wheel, which remains within the standard without dazzling enthusiasts of radial multi-piston calipers.

At €9,499, Kymco positions itself below the TMAX, which flirts with €15,000 in its recent versions. This is the most readable commercial argument of the AK Premium. It offers a complete maxi-scooter experience, correct equipment and a careful presentation for a price that leaves room for maneuver. The urban rider who travels 80 kilometers per day, alternates highway and traffic jams, and occasionally goes on a weekend trip will find a coherent proposition here. Those looking for a marked character, physical sensations or frank horsepower will pass their way.

What Kymco achieves with the AK Premium is to avoid the trap of the failed compromise. The scooter does not claim to be what it is not. It does not seek to imitate the TMAX, it offers an accessible, well-finished alternative, calibrated for a wide clientele. This is its true playing field, and on this field, it is consistent.
