Overview
How do you make a track weapon already as sharp as a scalpel even sharper? Kawasaki has the answer in 2011 with this ZX-6R Performance, a version where weight has been subtly shaved and aggression added, for a contained premium. The idea is not to completely redesign the machine, but to hone it where it counts for those targeting straightaways and hairpin turns.

Under the 17-liter fuel tank beats an inline four-cylinder engine of exemplary mechanical finesse. You have to torture it to extract all of its sap: 128 horsepower at 14,000 rpm, a torque of 66.7 Nm that arrives high in the rev range. It’s the pure DNA of 600 supersports, a machine that demands commitment and rewards with an electrifying rev, propelling the 191 kg fully fueled towards a horizon rushing by at 270 km/h. The perimeter aluminum frame and 41 mm inverted fork ensure a frank dialogue with the asphalt, for agility that seems to defy physics in tight curves.
The Performance Pack recipe is simple and effective. The original muffler is replaced with a carbon Akrapovic, lighter and with a much more aggressive sound, which releases a few extra horsepower in the process. A tall windscreen offers a little more protection when tucking in behind during top speeds. And the detail that kills: a single-seat cowl. It’s aesthetic, eliminates space for the passenger, and unequivocally confirms the purely selfish orientation of this limited series. At 12,999 euros, it positions itself as a credible option compared to custom builds, with the added manufacturer's warranty.
Faced with a Honda CBR600RR or a Yamaha YZF-R6 of the era, this Kawasaki plays the card of assumed extremism. It is not the most versatile; the 815 mm seat height and peaky engine make it a demanding companion in the city. But on winding roads or a circuit, it’s a killer. It forgives few mistakes, but in return offers precision and feedback that flatters the experienced rider. It’s the perfect motorcycle for those seeking the raw sensation of a race machine at a still reasonable price, a track bike ready to go that only needs a set of sport tires to deliver its full potential.
