Overview
From Greek mythology to the latest Avengers episodes, history is populated with surprising and immensely powerful creatures. The Kawasaki Z H2 is one of them. Harnessing its full madness pushes even the most disciplined riders to demand more.
More horsepower? Not needed (unless for the ego)! The roadster already has enough to propel you into geostationary orbit. As an SE model, it benefits from Showa-sourced electronic suspension, like the ZX-10R or H2 SX+ models. With the added bonus of Skyhook technology, first seen on the Versys 1000 SE, the braking system also gains efficiency with higher-grade Brembo calipers.
Thanks to this premium version, Akashi’s hyper-fighter finally has brake calipers worthy of its pressurized fury. The Z H2’s M4.32 calipers are already of a high caliber; but for an engine of this magnitude, it’s better to opt for the top-tier Brembo Stylema. Plenty of power with a more direct response and less warm-up. They’re going to have their work cut out for them when it comes to taming these 240 kg (529 lbs) launched in pursuit of the speed of sound.
Today, all fire-breathing machines have a version with electronic suspension. The Streetfighter V4 and Tuono V4 Factory trust Öhlins. The Z H2 relies on compatriot Showa. The 43 mm SFF-BP inverted fork and BFRC Lite shock absorber are equipped with solenoid valves that react in 1 millisecond. Thanks to various sensors and an inertial unit, the KECS (Kawasaki Electronic Control Suspension) transmits adjustment commands for real-time damping. Skyhook, for its part, oversees everything to ensure the motorcycle maintains the most stable stance possible. The laws governing suspension are conditioned by the Riding Mode chosen. The maps – Sport, Road, Rain, or Rider-configurable – therefore influence both the chassis and the electronic assists.
These are the same as on the standard Z H2. It’s not complicated; it’s almost as much as on a hypersport. Shifter Up&Down, Riding Mode, traction control KTRC, cornering control KCMF, ABS with angle adaptation KIBS, Power Modes, cruise control, low-speed assistant KLCM… and so that the rider can monitor all of this, a color screen with smartphone connectivity.
Let’s not forget (as if it were possible;-) the essential, the soul of this Z H2. Its supercharged engine spitting out over 200 horsepower. It’s a 1000cc inline four-cylinder, but thanks to its supercharger, the character is explosive and the torque reaches a maximum of 14 mkg (138 lb-ft) at 8500 rpm. The same Ovomaltine as the 1300cc Superduke. Just what’s needed to make this machine a surreal cannonball.
The Z H2 SE is available in a single two-tone color scheme. Quite elegant, in fact, with this depth of black enlivened by the green applied to the trellis frame, the belly pan, the fuel tank and other elements. Kawa has not retained the self-healing paint that it uses on certain other SE models. Not convinced or not convinced?
Enhanced in its chassis, the Z H2 SE allows Kawasaki to confront the most virulent roadsters on the market. With it, it’s neither sport nor racing, let alone hooliganism when you ask for the storm from its turbine… It’s pressurized adrenaline.
