Overview
Do you remember that period, around 2007, when roadsters started to become freak shows, always bigger, always more showy? It is in this context that the 2009 Kawasaki Z 750 arrived, as a reasonably furious proposition. It arrives after the shock of the new Z1000, and its role is clear: to seduce those intimidated by large displacement engines, without conceding anything on attitude. For around €7400 new at the time, it offered a solid compromise, a kind of "decaffeinated but strong" version of its big sister.

Dive into the technical specifications, and you will quickly understand its philosophy. The engine, a 748 cm3 inline four inherited from the former ZX-9R, is the heart of the matter. With 106 horsepower at 10500 rpm and a torque of 78.5 Nm more present in the mid-range, it avoids the pitfall of a lack of character. It doesn't have the brutality of a large twin-cylinder, but its liveliness is undeniable, pushing the machine to 230 km/h without ever seeming to run out of breath. The real feat lies in its chassis. The diamond frame receives reinforcements, and above all, the 41 mm inverted fork makes its appearance, an external sign of seriousness that was not systematic in the segment. With a full tank at 226 kg, it is not a featherweight, but its agility in the city and its stability in curves are its master assets.
Compared to its rivals of the time, such as the Suzuki GSR 750 or certain Triumph Street Triple, the Z 750 plays the card of robustness and a defined look. It is less nervous than a Triple, less neutral than a Suzuki. Its design is a successful borrowing from the Z1000, with its insectoid headlight and short dual outlet exhaust, even if connoisseurs will note the conventional calipers and less massive swingarm. The seat height of 815 mm is accessible, and the 18.5-liter tank promises beautiful ranges. It is a machine that wants to be reassuring for the sporty touring rider or the somewhat rushed novice, without being boring.

Today, searching for a Kawasaki Z 750 on the used market is an interesting hunt. Models from 2007 to 2009, like this version, represent an excellent performance/price ratio. They have proven their worth in terms of mechanical reliability. Just pay attention to the condition of the chain and tires, and to any potential rust sensitivity on certain elements. It is a motorcycle that ages rather well, less sophisticated than later models but with a disarming honesty.
Finally, this Z 750 embodies a pivotal era. It is not the craziest, nor the lightest, nor the most powerful. But it assembles its arguments with rare coherence: a healthy engine, a serious chassis, and a look that dares. It proves that you can make an engaging roadster without necessarily falling into excess. For those looking for a first large displacement engine that is lively but not unmanageable, or a daily route companion with bite, this Kawasaki remains, in memories and on the used market, a safe and terribly endearing value.
