Overview

At the time when the Z 1000 arrived with its brutish face, Kawasaki had the good idea of offering us a more affordable version, the 2004 Z 750. The idea was simple: to take the wild DNA of the elder, graft a more civilized engine onto it, and offer the whole thing at an aggressive Kawasaki Z 750 price. The result? A naked bike that quickly found its audience, especially on the Kawasaki Z 750 used market, where it remains an excellent compromise.

Kawasaki Z 750

Under the 18-liter tank and this characteristic steel diamond frame, we find a block derived from the old ZX-9R, but reduced to 748 cm3 and equipped with double-butterfly injection. The figures are clear: 110 horsepower at 11,000 rpm and 73.5 Nm of torque. What strikes you is its character. Forget extreme refinement; here we have an engine that breathes health from the mid-range. Between 4,000 and 8,000 rpm, it pulls like a donkey, offering a suppleness and liveliness that make riding in everyday use as simple as it is effective. Past that point, the Kawasaki punch awakens, and the beast shows its fangs until the redline. It is this mixture of civility and temperament that makes all the salt of this machine, far from the coldness of some more modern roadsters.

The chassis is directly inspired by the big sister. A 41 mm non-adjustable telescopic fork and a single rear shock absorber ensure lively and predictable road handling. With a kerb weight of 219 kg and a seat height of 815 mm, the Z 750 is accessible and maneuverable. It does not seek the surgical precision of a sports bike, but its front end reacts with frankness, sufficient to enjoy curves without requiring expert piloting. The braking, with its two 300 mm front discs, may lack initial bite compared to a ZX-6R, but its effectiveness is more than sufficient for sporty or urban use. It is a motorcycle that forgives and encourages you to push a little.

Kawasaki Z 750

Who is it for? The rider looking for a roadster with authentic character, without electronic frippery, with healthy mechanics and a look that is still as fierce twenty years later. Faced with a Honda Hornet 600 of the time, more focused on high revs, or a Yamaha Fazer with a more touring character, the Z 750 defends itself with its generous torque and its attitude of a small brute. Whether you consult a Kawasaki Z 750 specification sheet for a 2004, a Kawasaki Z 750 2006 or a later version, the essential remains. It is a motorcycle that has known how to age with panache, and which, on the used market, often represents a better pleasure/price ratio than its big sister Z 1000, sometimes too nervous for everyday use. A Kawasaki Z 750 test ride is enough to understand its charm: it doesn't cheat, it offers direct sensations, and it has that face that doesn't go unnoticed.
