Overview
Imagine a trail bike that looks at road maps with a hint of disdain. A machine that considers asphalt a mere starting point, not a destination. The Husqvarna Norden 901 Expedition 2024 embodies exactly this philosophy: taking the standard Norden, already well-seasoned, and grafting on the components necessary for muddy trails to become its natural playground rather than an unpleasant surprise.

The transformation begins with the suspension, and that's where everything is played. The WP XPLOR-USD fork gains in diameter, going from 43 mm to 48 mm, a difference that is immediately felt in flex rigidity. Total travel climbs to 240 mm, a figure that places the Norden Expedition ahead of the KTM 890 Adventure R, its blood relative, and at the level of the best in the category like the Triumph Tiger 900 Rally or the Aprilia 660 Tuareg. Ground clearance of 270 mm is not there just to look good on the Husqvarna Norden 901 Expedition specification sheet; it allows for clearances that many so-called "adventure" trails politely refuse. The WP Xplor PDS rear shock also gains high and low-speed compression adjustments, which the classic Norden does not offer. The result is a chrome-molybdenum chassis, using the 889 cm3 twin as a frame element, which absorbs irregularities with a welcome frankness.
The engine, for its part, does not change. One hundred and five horsepower at 8,000 rpm and 100 Nm at 6,500 rpm, it is the same engine that can be found at KTM under a different robe. This twin is known for its versatility: enough torque at low revs to progress quietly on stones, enough liveliness at high revs to swallow up miles of asphalt without dragging. The announced consumption of 4.5 liters per 100 km is honest for an engine of this capacity. The four riding modes, Street, Rain, Offroad and Explorer, allow you to adapt the responses of the electronics to the terrain, with cornering traction control, a wheelie control and a bidirectional quickshifter as standard. Explorer mode allows for complete customization of all these parameters, which demanding adventurers will appreciate.

Travel equipment is what truly justifies the "Expedition" suffix and its price of 17,199 euros. Two waterproof side bags totaling 36 liters flank the machine, an aluminum engine guard protects vital parts, heated grips and a seat limit damage in cold weather, and a large windshield improves aerodynamic protection on long stages. Connectivity is via a dedicated module that allows you to pair a smartphone for navigation, call management and music. A center stand completes the picture, essential for mechanical interventions far from any garage. All of this weighs its weight, of course, and the Husqvarna Norden 901 Expedition used model that you will find on classified ads will probably show traces of use as a result.

Who is this machine for? Not for the urban commuter, clearly. Nor for the track rider in search of pure sensations. The Norden 901 Expedition is for the globetrotter who embraces his desire for broken asphalt, the one who leaves for three weeks with an approximate itinerary and waterproof boots. Faced with the Africa Twin, heavier and more touring-oriented, or the Ténéré 700 Extreme, lighter but less comfortable, the Husqvarna Norden 901 Expedition occupies a specific niche: the equipped adventure trail, ready to use, without having to complete the machine with separately purchased accessories. The entry price is high, but it must be recognized that the level of standard equipment largely justifies the bill.
