Overview

So, a Harley that dares? In 2011, the Softail Rocker C clearly sought to shake up the codes of the factory custom. It’s neither quite a show brick nor a neutral base. Milwaukee took the risk of delivering a machine with a very defined character, with this faux hardtail that gives the illusion of a rigid frame and this monumental 240 rear wheel. The result exudes a crazy presence, a blend of audacity and classicism that turns heads as it passes. For the price of a good family car at the time, around €21,600, you mainly buy a rolling mechanical sculpture.

Harley-Davidson FXCWC Softail Rocker C

On the saddle, the philosophy is clear: you are there to impose a silhouette, not to break cornering records. The 69-centimeter seat is of rare accessibility, even for a custom, and the large handlebar allows you to handle the advertised 327 kg with a certain ease, at least at low speed. The Twin Cam 96 engine of 1584 cm3 delivers its 125 Nm of torque from 3000 rpm, a quiet force that pushes without haste and allows you to ride in sixth gear on the national road. On the other hand, the original exhaust is of a guilty discretion, stifling the characteristic crackle of the V-twin. It’s a bit like serving a grand cru in a plastic cup.

On the road, the Rocker C surprises with its balance. Despite the narrow front tire in 90/90 and the huge rear tire, it leans with less reluctance than you might imagine, much more agile than a Night Rod equipped with the same tires. The rear suspension, hidden horizontally, offers correct comfort, except in mono configuration where the seat height becomes a torture for the lower back after a few kilometers. The small hidden jump seat is an ingenious find for short trips, but no one will call that a real passenger seat.

Ultimately, who is it for? Certainly not for the beginner, despite its low height, because of its weight and price. It is the motorcycle of a road aesthete, a customizer who prefers that the artisan's work is already done by the factory. The finish is impeccable, the line is daring, and it avoids the pitfall of a too-standard look. The real challenge, for its owner, will be not to touch it. Because with such advanced personalization straight from the catalog, what remains to be modified? Perhaps just the mufflers, to finally give it back its sonic soul. A machine with character, therefore, for those who assume to ride a work of art.
