Overview
Imagine a block of chrome rolling, a monument on two wheels that breathes the America of wide-open spaces and smoky asphalt. This isn't a motorcycle, it's a symbol, a myth forged in the collective imagination by a memorable cinematic appearance. Contrary to what the heads-up display of the Terminator shows, the motorcycle featured in the film is actually a 1991 Harley-Davidson FLSTF Fat Boy, a detail for purists, but a fact that has forever sealed the legend of this machine. Fifteen years later, in 2006, the beast has transformed, but its soul remains intact.

Beneath its appearance of a gentle giant, the Fat Boy now hides the Twin Cam 88B, an evolution that brings a touch of civility to this world of brutes. With 115 Nm of torque available from 3000 rpm, the V-twin delivers a heavy and constant thrust, typical of large cruisers, even if the announced 63 horsepower will never make you a king of top speed. The real revolution lies in its balance shaft, which significantly reduces vibrations, making long straight stretches much less exhausting for the wrists. In terms of handling, Harley has also made efforts, with reworked rear suspension that swallows imperfections with a little more rigor, without transforming the machine into a sportbike.
But let's be clear, you don't choose a Fat Boy for its agility in corners. With its 324 kg fully fueled and a wheelbase of over a meter sixty, the beast dictates its tempo: slow, majestic, relentless. The braking, although better than on previous generations, remains behind the weight of the machine. And beware of tight turns, the wide footpegs will quickly scrape the asphalt if you venture too far. It's a motorcycle to show off, to listen to the characteristic rumble of its exhaust, to feel this unique physical presence on the road.
The target audience is obvious: the traveler who prioritizes style and sensation over pure performance, the chrome aesthete, the one for whom every ride is a parade. At more than 20,000 euros new, it's a passion investment, far from rational considerations. Faced with a Honda VTX 1800 or a Yamaha V-Star 1300, more powerful and often more affordable, the 2006 Fat Boy doesn't play in the same league. It sells a dream, an icon, a piece of motorized history. It is the archetype of the American cruiser, with its assumed flaws and undeniable charisma. For the rider who accepts its limitations, it is a unique experience. For others, it will be nothing more than a magnificent and slow rolling decoration.
