Overview
Imagine a chrome and metallic paint asteroid, cleaving the asphalt with the quiet authority of a cruise ship. This is not a vision; it is the new CVO Road Glide. At nearly €48,000, it is not a motorcycle; it is a statement. A statement that weighs 393 kilograms fully fueled and that, for the first time on a Milwaukee air-cooled engine, features variable valve timing. The M8 121 cubic inches becomes a veritable living museum piece, boosted to 1977 cm3 to unleash 182.4 Nm of torque from 3500 rpm. A punch.

Harley is playing a fascinating double game here. On one hand, it caresses tradition with this twin that remains, in its soul, a generous, large brute. On the other hand, it embraces radical modernity. Look at this front end: the famous “Shark Nose” was sculpted by a science-fiction designer, reducing turbulence by 60% and launching a hypnotic LED gaze at the Indian Challenger. It is bold, almost subversive for the brand. Weight has been banished – 16 kilograms less than the previous model – and the rolling chassis receives sporty equipment: 47 mm inverted forks, Brembo 4-piston radial calipers, enormous 320 mm front discs. On this bagger, it is a revolution.
But the real betrayal of the purists might be the dashboard. The analog needles are gone, making way for the 12.3-inch Skyline screen. This giant tile is the brain of the beast, piloting a high-end sound system, navigation, and above all, five riding modes. Yes, you read that right. Road, Sport, Rain, and two custom modes modulate throttle response, engine braking, and electronic aids. For a Harley touring rider seeking the ultimate machine, it is paradise. For the traditionalist who runs on raw feel, it could smell of sacrilege.

So, for whom does this technological behemoth run? Clearly not for the beginner, frightened by its size and price. It is the mount of the industry captain or the wealthy aesthete who wants to swallow the highway in royal silence, with all the comfort and equipment of a rolling lounge. It offers an addictive fullness of torque, reworked suspension comfort, and an unparalleled stage presence. But at a theoretical top speed of 180 km/h, it will never claim to rival a BMW K 1600 or a Honda Gold Wing on pure performance. Its magic lies elsewhere: in the art of transforming a simple journey into an event.

This CVO Road Glide is therefore a hybrid and assumed animal. It retains the beating heart and attitude of a Harley, but it wraps it in technology that propels it into the present. It does not forget its roots; it waters them with electronics. Is this the future of cruising? For those who can afford it, it is in any case a very, very seductive present.
