Overview
What drives a century-old manufacturer to dress its most iconic custom in an exclusive livery, if not the desire to transform a motorcycle into a collector's item? In 2018, Harley-Davidson celebrates its 115th anniversary and decides to mark the occasion across several models in its lineup. But the Fat Boy FLFBS receives preferential treatment that the others can only envy.

The Legend Blue Denim finish, a blend of deep blue and black, would already be enough to distinguish this Softail Fat Boy in a biker parking lot. Except Milwaukee doesn't stop there. Where a Street Glide Special settles for a painted eagle on the bodywork, where other anniversary models sport a medallion on the tank, the Fat Boy 115th Anniversary combines both distinctions. Two versions actually coexist — one with the metallic badge for purists, the other with a bold graphic emblem on the tank for those who prefer visual daring. Even the seat plays along, enhanced with blue stitching that echoes the bodywork's hue. The attention to detail extends to an individual serial number engraved on the center console, a reminder to each owner that they belong to an exclusive circle of 1,100 units.
Beneath this ceremonial attire lies the 45-degree V-twin Milwaukee-Eight 114, packing 1,745 cc of displacement. The numbers speak for themselves. 94 horsepower at 5,020 rpm is respectable without being earth-shattering. But the torque hits hard, with 155 Nm available from just 3,000 rpm. It's this fat, immediate thrust that defines the Fat Boy's character — that sensation of continuous pull that pins you into the seat every time you crack the throttle. The 6-speed gearbox and belt drive do their job cleanly, without surprises. Top speed caps out at 175 km/h, which clearly positions the machine on cruising territory rather than outright performance. Up against an Indian Chief Dark Horse or a Triumph Rocket 3, the Fat Boy doesn't play the raw horsepower card. It banks on character, presence, and low-end torque.
At 317 kg wet, this Harley doesn't do delicate. The hidden mono-shock under the seat and the 41.3 mm telescopic fork provide basic comfort on open roads, but don't expect miracles on rough pavement. The 675 mm seat height, however, reassures shorter riders and plants both feet firmly on the ground. The 240 mm rear tire remains the model's visual signature — that massive rubber hoop that gives the Fat Boy its unmistakable silhouette. Braking, handled by a 300 mm front disc and a 292 mm rear disc, proves adequate for the leisurely pace this machine invites you to ride at. The 18.9-liter tank allows for reasonable range between fuel stops.
The price of this limited edition comes in at 25,260 euros, roughly 15% more than a standard Fat Boy with the 107 ci engine. That's the cost of exclusivity — of a motorcycle worth as much for the story it tells as for what it delivers on the road. The Fat Boy 115th Anniversary targets a very specific clientele: Harley-Davidson collectors who want to ride a piece of history rather than let it gather dust in a garage. For everyone else, the standard Fat Boy perfectly fulfills its role as an imposing, characterful cruiser. But it will always lack that little blue spark that makes all the difference.
