Overview
Harley-Davidson had launched the 2013 Street Bob Special Edition as a punk slap — bright red and mean-spirited. For 2014, Milwaukee changes its register without putting the knives away. The FXDBB plays a different tune, colder, almost surgical in its approach to bobber style. Less visible provocation, more refinement drawn from the Factory Customization program. This is no longer a dog that barks; it's a dog that bites in silence.

The first change is immediately apparent the moment you walk around the machine. The wire-spoke wheels are gone, replaced by Split Five aluminum wheels — five diamond-machined split spokes. The effect is striking, halfway between a forged component and a piece of industrial art. The ape-hanger handlebars of the standard version have also given way to a low, taut drag bar borrowed from the quarter-mile racing world. The forward controls come from the Sportster 72, repositioning the rider in a stretched posture — legs forward, back straight. The roadster's laid-back attitude gives way to something more constructed, more deliberate. Add to that a tank and risers from the Fat Bob, a cut-down rear fender, and a two-tone "Mysterious Red Sunglo and Silver" paint scheme with hand-painted graphics. The result is a cohesive machine, clearly conceived for those who want to customize without setting foot in a workshop.
Beneath this costume, the Twin Cam 1690 does the job without fuss. This 45-degree V-twin delivers 76 horsepower at 5,250 rpm — not the most impressive figure in the catalog — but the 134 Nm of torque available from 3,000 rpm tells you everything about the character of the beast. You don't ride this engine; you negotiate with it. Every twist of the throttle produces a meaty, smooth response, with that hollow, deep sound that purists expect and that Japanese or European competition cannot fully replicate. A Triumph Thunderbird or a Ducati Diavel offer superior raw performance, but they make no claim to competing on the same emotional terrain. The Street Bob SE isn't here to post lap times; it's here to make an impression at red lights.
The 307 kg wet weight is a reality that cannot be ignored. At low speed — in parking lots or urban maneuvering — it makes itself felt. The 670 mm seat height remains accessible, which helps, but the novice rider will need some time to tame the mass. This is not a motorcycle for learning; it's a motorcycle for those who already know what they want. The 17.8-liter tank offers a respectable range, and the six-speed belt-drive gearbox swallows the miles with a smoothness that's genuinely appreciated on open roads.

What truly sets this special edition apart is its geographic distribution. The United States won't see a single unit. The FXDBB is available in limited numbers exclusively to Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, giving it a genuine rarity rather than a marketed one. At €14,890, it sits in a demanding segment — between a well-equipped standard version and the CVO variants that flirt with twice the price. For that budget, the buyer gets a cohesive, immediately distinctive machine that needs neither stickers nor aftermarket parts to make its presence felt. That is perhaps the most sincere compliment one can pay to a limited series.
