Overview
For this Next-Gen iteration, Ducati has refined its Scrambler 800. More electronics, less weight for a motorcycle not really intended for dirt roads but which has always retained the soul of a dirt-track machine. This allows it to handle urban imperfections and enjoy a few pleasant rides on secondary roads.
A revised chassis from the ground up
For this second generation of the Scrambler 800, Ducati has taken care to revise many aspects of the motorcycle’s technical foundation.
The Bologna-based manufacturer announces that the chassis is “completely new” without specifying the modifications to the trellis frame aimed at lightening it. The frame has also been slightly extended with 4 mm of additional wheelbase. The swingarm is also new and the shock migrates to a central position. The previous version used a shock mounted on the left side. The suspensions are entrusted to KYB with a 41 mm fork at the front (150 mm travel) and an adjustable preload shock with the same travel. The seat height is 795 mm.
The braking system features a 330 mm front single disc pinched by a radial-mount 4-piston Brembo caliper. The rear disc is also generous with a diameter of 245 mm. The whole is controlled by ABS, which is also active on the angle. Only a legacy of a distant past not entirely paved, the front wheel remains 18 inches (rear 17 inches). The wheels are shod with Pirelli MT-60 RS tires, including a generous 180 mm rear tire (front 110 mm).
More horsepower, more electronic control
The Desmodue twin remains, with 803 cc and, above all, a bit more horsepower. For this mark II version, it climbs to 73 hp at 8250 rpm (compared to 67 hp on the first generation). The torque is 65.2 Nm at 7000 rpm. The Scrambler is also available in a 35 kW version for motorcycle riders holding an A2 license. If it gains horsepower, it also loses weight, shedding 2.5 kg on the scale. The clutch is an eight-disc type to offer a smoother feel. The clutch housing has been reduced in size, offering more space for the rider's foot.
The Ducati Scrambler receives a Ride-by-Wire throttle (electronic throttle). This evolution allows for the adoption of Ducati Traction Control and two riding modes: Road and Rain. Depending on the mode adopted, the electronics also vary the level of traction control. The arrival of Ride-by-Wire also allows for the adoption of an up/down shifter, standard equipment on the Full Throttle and available as an accessory on the rest of the range.
Finally, all these modifications to the chassis and engine result in a 4 kg weight reduction on the Scrambler 800.
1 motorcycle, 3 Bolognese sauces: Scrambler Icon, Scrambler Full Throttle and Scrambler Nightshift
The common element to the three Scrambler variations is the DRL: Daytime Running Light. The front optics, recognizable by the X across it delimiting 4 circular sectors of its lighting. The front headlight is now entirely LED, as is the rest of the lighting. The steel tank has been redesigned and is equipped with an interchangeable tank top, as well as the side panels and headlight details. The owner can evolve the color of their motorcycle by going through the accessory catalog without going through the body shop to repaint the motorcycle. The radiator cowls are made of anodized aluminum. In front of the handlebars, the Scrambler 800 receives a new 4.3-inch color TFT instrumentation. Its smartphone connectivity will delight the most geeky riders who can control the music and the massages received.
The engine contributes to the style with new clutch and alternator covers featuring the "X" logo, while the belt covers have been redesigned. The exhaust is new: new shape and new collectors to leave a clear view of the engine.
Then, depending on the version chosen between Icon, Full Throttle or Nightshift, certain elements will vary from one version to another, such as: the presentation of the seat, the front mudguards, the shape of the handlebars or the side panels. The Nightshift version is the only one to receive superb spoked wheels.
The catalog includes other accessories, including Termignoni exhausts, seats, seat covers, transport bags and many machined details - footrests, mirrors, tank caps. Everyone can customize their motorcycle while slightly increasing the bill.
