Overview
Do you remember that era, around 2016, when everyone wanted a Scrambler? Ducati had succeeded with its retro and accessible machine, but facing emerging competition, it was necessary to find a way to stand out. Their response was this partnership with Italia Independent, a marriage between Bolognese engineering and Florentine style. The result, the Scrambler 800 Italia Independent, is not just another machine. It's a collector's item, a fashion statement on two wheels, limited to 1077 numbered units. The idea was clear: to seduce a clientele that seeks exclusivity above all else, those for whom the garage is an art gallery.

This special edition takes the base of the Scrambler 800 and applies a dark and urban elegance treatment. The frame and rims adopt a unique "Night Copper" hue, while the rest of the motorcycle, including the tank with its hand-brushed flanks, is draped in matte black. They pushed the café racer theme further than on the standard versions: low handlebars, small perch-mounted mirrors, and above all, the L-twin engine treated in black with finely machined fins. The showstopper remains the anodized black Termignoni exhaust. At €12,377, you are obviously paying for the rarity and the more extensive customization work rather than the mechanics themselves.
Because mechanically, nothing changes. We find the faithful 803 cc twin-cylinder engine delivering 75 horsepower at 8250 rpm and 67.7 Nm of torque. With its 186 kg fully fueled and a seat height of 790 mm, it remains as accessible and maneuverable as any Scrambler. It will never have the ferocity of a Monster 821 nor the agility of a Triumph Street Scrambler 900. That is not its purpose. It simply offers honest sensations, with a 41 mm inverted fork and Brembo radial braking that do the job well, all within a sound bubble made richer by the Termignoni. Its top speed is around 180 km/h, which is more than sufficient for its use.
This Ducati Scrambler 800 Italia Independent is aimed at the collector, the urban dandy who wants a unique motorcycle for Sunday outings or events. It is not the machine of the globetrotter who covers miles nor that of the track rider in search of lap times. It is to a motorcycle what a pair of designer sunglasses is to optics: a style accessory, loaded with symbols. Compared to a Triumph Scrambler 1200 XE or even a standard Ducati Scrambler Café Racer, it can only be justified by the emotion it provides and the status it confers.
Ultimately, this model is a success as a desirable object. It proves that Ducati already knew, long before the current trend, how to play on collaborations to expand its audience. However, as a purist motorcyclist, one can regret that so much effort was devoted only to the appearance. The chassis, the suspension, the engine have remained strictly identical. This is the paradox of this machine: it is magnificent to look at, pleasant to ride, but it offers no technical advances to justify its premium. It remains a Scrambler 800 dressed by a great couturier, a stylistic exercise perfectly mastered for those who have the means and the desire.
