Overview
When Ducati decides to honor a rider, it doesn’t do so halfway. Here, it’s Troy Bayliss, this Australian brawler with a raw, deconstructed style, to whom the Bolognese firm is offering a new tribute. Not a simple color scheme, but a Panigale V2 that dreams of being a replica of the 996 F01, the one from the first world title in 2001. The message is clear: even in the "middleweight" category, one can embody a legend.

Visually, the work is a success. The white, the red, and the splashes of carbon pick up the codes of the factory bike, with that number 21 proudly displayed. It is a motorcycle that assumes its status as a collector's item, down to the detail of Bayliss' signature on the tank. But beneath the commemorative finish, the engineers have also added some substance. The major change is the Öhlins suspension as standard equipment: a NIX30 fork and a TTX36 mono shock promising more precise feel and increased rigidity for tight sequences. They also lightened the package by three kilos, by removing the passenger footrests and opting for a lithium battery. It’s not a revolution, but it’s a tangible improvement for those seeking pure sensation.
The heart, however, remains the famous Superquadro. This 955 cm3 L-twin is a marvel of responsiveness, delivering its 155 horsepower with that characteristic rage at higher revs. It’s almost a mechanical wink: it aligns a power very close to that of the old 996, but with electronics from another century. Here, everything is managed by a control unit: Cornering ABS, traction control, anti-wheelie, and three riding modes that transform the beast. It is this duality that makes the V2 charming: it has the soul of an old bike, raw, but is ridden with the precision of a modern one. When compared to a Yamaha YZF-R7 or an Aprilia RS 660, it is clearly in another league in terms of character and power, but also of demands.
Who is it for? Certainly not a beginner. With its 197 kilos fully fueled and a seat height of 83.5 cm, it imposes its physique. It is the motorcycle for the enthusiast who wants to combine the thrill of historical mechanics with the efficiency of a contemporary sportbike, for the track or winding roads. The price, however, is a massive argument: at over 23,000 euros, it is far from the standard Panigale V2. This difference is explained by the Öhlins equipment and the limited nature of the series, but it requires a financial commitment without compromise. Ducati is not just selling a motorcycle here; it is selling a piece of its history. And for Bayliss fans, it probably has no price.
