Overview
When Bologna decides to release a special edition, it doesn't do things by halves. The Corse version of the Panigale 959 was born from a specific context: the imminent arrival of the Panigale V4 in the range would relegate the twin-cylinder to second place. Ducati therefore chose to offer it a final lap of honor dressed in battle gear, rather than a discreet departure through the back door.

The L-twin of 955 cc has nothing to be ashamed of in terms of its performance. 150 horsepower at 10,500 rpm, 102 Nm of torque at 9,000 rpm, all compressed into an aluminum monocoque chassis that weighs 176 kg dry. For a serious Ducati Panigale 959 Corse test, these figures speak for themselves: we are talking about a machine that develops as much power as the 999 from ten years ago, this flagship of the range that made racers of the time dream. The engine remains the soul of the bike, and this 4-valve per cylinder V2, with its 100 mm bore for 60.8 mm stroke and a compression ratio of 12.5:1, has character to spare. Faced with an Aprilia RSV4 or a BMW S 1000 RR with four smooth and linear cylinders, the Ducati twin imposes a different temperament, more organic, more physical on the pickups.
The Corse version justifies its price of 19,190 euros with a catalog of premium parts that would have made any preparer smile. The semi-active Öhlins suspensions are the highlight of the package: 43 mm inverted NIX30 fork with TiN treatment, and TTX36 rear shock absorber, all electronically controlled in semi-active mode. On a used Ducati Panigale 959 Corse, this is the system to check first, as it makes such a difference on the track. Add a titanium Akrapovic exhaust, a lithium battery to lighten the bill, an Öhlins steering damper, and a matte livery directly inspired by MotoGP paddock. The trim does not lie about intentions.
However, it is necessary to point out a real frustration for a complete Ducati Panigale 959 Corse test: the Brembo M4.32 calipers remain in place where M50 calipers would have been more in line with the displayed positioning. It is not a functional defect, the braking remains excellent with the radial-attack double discs, but on an edition called Corse and claiming a circuit lineage, we expected this last detail. Forged rims would have completed the picture. Ducati traced a budget line and did not cross it, which remains understandable at this Ducati Panigale 959 Corse price.
The seat height of 830 mm and the short wheelbase of 1,431 mm clearly define the target audience: the experienced rider who knows his limits and wants to push them, not the novice looking for a first sportbike. With a top speed announced at 270 km/h and a 17-liter tank, the 959 Corse positions itself as a grand-route machine capable of track outings without requiring heavy transformation. What is the price of a Ducati Panigale 959 Corse in terms of physical commitment? High. It is a radical proposition that does not seek to appeal to everyone, and it is precisely what makes it credible. At a time when the V4 was imposing itself as the new face of Bologna, this twin chose to leave on a sharp note.
