Overview
With the arrival of the Panigale V4, the 959 has become the only Superbike in the range powered by a twin (excluding the very expensive 1299 Final Edition). An opportunity to assert itself further, almost to take up the torch. But let no one be mistaken. The essence of the glory and the image of the Superbike will go to the V4. Nevertheless, with this Panigale 959 CORSE, one can expect a very tight exit from corners.
The 959 Panigale has no concerns about its potential. Galvanized by a generous engine, it has what it takes to compete with many competitors. With the displacement inflation of the "small" Superbikes from Bologna, it now produces as much power as the 999, the flagship of the range 10 years ago. The opportunity is ideal for releasing a more muscular, more premium, more effective series. And to bring back an old designation. We have seen beautiful Italians with the 848 and 1098 Corse Edition. The 959 takes over and is adorned with a racing look directly inspired by MotoGP, sprinkled with a matte finish like on the 1299 Superleggera. High-end equipment is appropriate: the 959 Corse is equipped with Akrapovic titanium exhausts, a lithium battery, a steering damper Öhlins and suspension components from the same Swedish manufacturer. A 43 mm NIX 30 inverted fork and a TTX36 shock absorber are in place. Alas, the beauty retains its Brembo M4.32 brake calipers. Very good equipment indeed – why alas? We would have liked M50 calipers, more in line with a racing designation. And a pair of forged rims, that would have been nice too.
With this Panigale 959 Corse edition and the 1299 Panigale Final Edition, Ducati is not putting its twin to sleep but is still offering it a strong presence, which has hammered several generations of track riders. History is not fading away, it is taking another form. The 959 Corse will thus offer a great taste of track riding on throttle blips on the road.
