Overview

Whether as a roadster, cruiser, or trail bike, Ducati doesn’t forget its DNA: sport. Just look at the immense power that the Multistrada models produce. Although their missions range from trail-GT touring to expeditions beyond borders, it doesn't take much to bring a healthy dose of excitement to the surface. And one in particular develops its athletic side more than the others: the Pikes Peak version.

Accompanying the range for a good few years, this sprinter also benefits from the arrival of the 1262 cm3 engine. Borrowed from the XDiavel, retaining the DVT variable valve timing technology and increased in displacement, the twin expands its torque range and availability. At 3500 rpm, you already have 11.2 mkg. And the peak is at 13.2 mkg. To accompany, 158 horsepower are waiting for the rider's impatience to gallop with robustness. The MTS Pikes Peak is dyed with the colors of the American mountain queen, and she shows it.

Here, we forget touring. This machine has hot blood, exacerbated desires for corners, and a flushed demeanor. It is distinguished without question with its "Corse" color scheme. Then, the beautiful parts are not there for flattery but for efficiency. Here, the entire suspension system is signed Öhlins, with an inverted 48 mm fork and a TTX36 shock absorber; fully adjustable as it should be. A must for ground connections. And more dynamism with the lighter forged aluminum rims. These are shod with Pirelli Scorpion Trail II tires. Almost a shame; we would have seen a more sporty tire fitment for a machine of this caliber. Powerful and full of character, the twin cylinder expresses its vocalizations fully with a Termignoni exhaust signed "Ducati Performance". And for pleasure, this MTS features a seat with red stitching and a selection of carbon parts: racing bubble, front mudguard, side deflectors and switch surround.

Compared to the ex-Pikes Peak, the Multistrada 1262 DVT has revised its chassis dimensions with a more open rake angle (from 24° to 25°), a longer swingarm and an increased wheelbase. It weighs 3 kilos less than the standard MTS, mainly thanks to its Marchesini rims, and 6 kilos less than the 1200 of before. The electronics are improved with a more efficient ride-by-wire. We find the 330 mm brakes with Bembo M50 calipers, the IMU inertial platform, and all the equipment of the S version. Let's list a fairly impressive list counting the 4 riding modes, the 5-inch color TFT dashboard, the hill start assist, the keyless start, the ABS active in corners, traction control, anti-wheeling, the up/down shifter, cruise control, adaptive full LED lighting that turns with the bike and a Bluetooth link to pair the smartphone.
