Overview
The Monster needs no introduction, this bare silhouette that revolutionized the roadster in the early 90s. But in 2003, Ducati decided to graft a true Superbike heart onto it, that of the 916. This resulted in the S4, a machine that transforms the original concept into a brutal and unadorned declaration of war.

Beneath the traditional trellis frame, now borrowed from the sportier ST4 for increased rigidity, beats a 916 cm³ L-twin engine. With 101 horsepower at 8750 rpm and, above all, 91 Nm of torque at 7000 rpm, you leave the world of gentle neo-retro bikes behind. This engine is a massive construction weapon. Below 3000 rpm, it coughs and seems grumpy, but as soon as you brush against 4000 rpm, the animal awakens. The rev range is electric, the sound deep and authoritative, and each throttle opening beyond that threshold translates into a violent surge that presses your shoulders against the tank. Compared to a Japanese bike of the time, more supple and civilized, the S4 is a punch to the asphalt.
This mechanical aggression is fully reflected in its behavior. The stiff chassis and firmly calibrated suspension transmit every bump in the road directly to the rider. In the city or on degraded roads, it’s a trial. But on smooth, winding tarmac, everything becomes clear. The steering requires authority, the head angle being more open than on a Monster 900, and the 207 kg when fully fueled make their mass felt during transitions. However, once engaged, it proves to be of exemplary precision and stability. The braking, with its two four-piston calipers at the front, is of absolute power and feel.
The Ducati Monster S4 is not a motorcycle for everyone. It is an extreme roadster, designed for the rider who seeks pure, brutal sensation and is willing to make compromises on comfort and ease of use. Costing over 11,000 euros at the time, it was aimed at the demanding enthusiast, the track rider at heart who wanted a lively engine and a strong character. It doesn't caress, it bites. It doesn't seduce, it imposes. And for those who know how to tame it, it offers an intensity of riding that few roadsters, even modern ones, can match. It is the wildest and most honest version of the Monster myth.
