Overview
Two white stripes on a black background, and that says it all. The 2015 Ducati Monster 821 Stripe doesn’t seek to blend in with the mass of roadsters—it asserts a direct lineage with the S2R and S4R of yesteryear, those muscular Monsters that had managed to combine Latin character and a streamlined aesthetic. The nod to American muscle cars is not insignificant: this livery signifies a motorcycle that embraces its sporty nature without denying the accessibility brought by the 821 range since its launch.

Because that's really the paradox of the Ducati Monster 821 Stripe: to be both more open and more refined than the standard model. The 821 cc V-twin develops 112 horsepower at 9250 rpm for a torque of 89.4 Nm available at 7750 rpm. Figures that place the machine in a very large comfort zone, far from the borderline nervousness of a Streetfighter or the aggressiveness of a KTM Duke 890. The engine focuses more on flexibility and character than on brute force, making it a consistent mount for an intermediate rider looking to progress without being frightened with every twist of the wrist.
The real difference from the base version lies in the suspension. The Stripe receives an entirely adjustable inverted fork in place of the fixed fork of the standard 821—a detail that changes everything in use. Adjusting the front end to suit your riding style, your weight, or the type of road is no longer a luxury reserved for high-end machines. The Ducati Monster 821 Stripe test reveals a motorcycle capable of transforming itself: supple and comfortable on open roads, firm and precise on a string of tight turns. The progressive mono-shock at the rear and the double-sided aluminum swingarm complete a healthy chassis, without hidden vices. The front Brembo Monobloc M4-32 four-piston brakes with double semi-floating discs are among the best in the category.
At 179.5 kg dry weight and a 785 mm seat height, the machine remains manageable for an average build. The 17.5-liter tank allows for correct autonomy, even if the V2's appetite deepens when you solicit 9000 rpm. The Ducati Monster 821 Stripe technical specifications show a top speed of 220 km/h, which places the motorcycle in the same range as the Triumph Street Triple RS or the Yamaha MT-09 of the time, two direct competitors in this segment of 800 to 900 cc roadsters. Compared to the Japanese bike, the Ducati gains in character and finish; it loses in versatility and lightness.
At 11,595 euros at the launch price, the used Ducati Monster 821 Stripe today represents a sensible purchase for those who want to enter the Bolognese universe without mortgaging three years' salary. The 2015, 2016 and 2017 model years share the same solid mechanical base, with minor cosmetic evolutions from year to year. The Testastretta 11° engine handles the kilometers without flinching if maintenance intervals are respected. This Monster does not claim to be a substitute for the track. It offers something else: accessible pleasure, strong visual identity, and enough adjustability to grow with its rider.
