Overview
It’s a statement of fact, it’s a state of shock! The Adventure has always been an imposing model, not necessarily graceful. But here, the impact is entirely different. From the 1300 GS standard, it retains the very particular X-shaped look, presents a more tortured beak, then fundamentally differentiates itself from the previous 1250 GSA with rhinoceros-like metallic shoulders. Stupefying! You’d almost believe that camping coolers were used as molds for the fairing flanks.
The function seems to have guided every phase of the design… Practicality appears to dominate the habit… The desire to please has been crushed by the weight of the mission. But what mission? To cross the middle lands with the strength of a buffalo. To that end, the latest-generation Boxer engine has plenty of power to spare. Introduced on the 1300 GS, completely redesigned compared to the 1250, more compact and lighter, less intrusive for the legs, it distributes 145 horsepower at 7,750 rpm, which is 9 hp more than the engine of the previous generation GSA. As for torque, it projects from 14.5 Nm to 15.2 Nm. A big muscle, lively and full to the brim!
BMW is taking advantage of this second recipient of the new twin to offer an unprecedented assisted transmission as an option: the ASA. At the heart of the engine are two electromechanical actuators to handle the clutch and gear changes. They are connected to a series of sensors and a dedicated control unit. With all this, the 1300 GS Adventure disengages and engages the clutch automatically and shifts gears in several ways: - in M mode, the rider shifts gears with the foot as usual; except that there is no longer a clutch lever; - in D mode, the machine chooses when to change gears, based on the riding mode selected, the engine speed, the lean angle, and the throttle. But the rider can also shift gears when they wish. The AutomatedShiftAssistant promises increased riding comfort, less stress, better off-road control, smoother gear changes, and the end of missed shifts – in exchange for €900.
But beyond riding with or without a clutch, the GSA mainly wants to ride far and long. To do this, it can count on its enormous 30-liter tank. The same capacity as its predecessor and 11 liters more than the 1300 standard – enough to consider 600 km of range while riding coolly. It also offers top-notch protection, with a face as wide as a refrigerator, a tall bubble and deflectors (more or less important depending on the chosen finish), and handguards with integrated turn signals. However, the defense of the motorcycle itself has been reduced. There is a crash-bar frame around the engine, but it no longer rises to protect the flanks. Watch out for prominent trees and rocks. However, this space clearance is not insignificant. It will be possible to graft panniers (very expensive) onto the cheeks of the GSA. The latter is not stingy with luggage solutions to satisfy long raids. For example, the tank is fitted with a new type of anchor to easily accommodate a tilt-back tanler-bag, sized perfectly to avoid hindering access to the special smartphone compartment. Still on the tank (decidedly), BMW has installed “plates” made of rubber to spread things out during stops. A coffee, a compass, a laugocyphone, a screwdriver… the kind of things you need to put down for a few moments and that always break… Except here.
For serious adventurers, the 2025 Adventure also offers (as an option) new aluminum top cases and panniers (37 + 36.5 liters) with electrical interface for lighting, USB sockets and centralized locking. There are also fabric bags of various sizes, trek or urban style. Between the different GS profiles, options and accessories, the customer will have enough to spend a good afternoon with the salesperson.
This will inevitably divert to the electronic corner. The R 1300 GS Adventure has been enriched at this level from the standard equipment. It includes 4 riding modes (Eco / Rain / Road and 1* more than on the 1250, the 'Enduro'), traction control, residual engine torque* and dynamic brake management, ABS Pro*, Matrix LED headlights doubled with auxiliary headlights*, dynamic cruise control with automatic braking assistance DBC*, a USB and 12V socket, a 6.5-inch color TFT screen, tire pressure monitoring*, the Keyless Ride* keyless system, heated grips*, intelligent emergency call*, and semi-active suspension DSA* – more advanced than Dynamic ESA Next Gen, the Dynamic Suspension Adjustement can adapt the spring stiffness in addition to the dynamic adjustment of damper settings; as well as automatic load compensation and adaptive vehicle height control. A * for the elements in addition to the 1250.
And from there, we move on to the options, which are still very advanced in terms of driving assistance. The arrival of radar in the motorcycle world has made dynamic cruise control possible, scanning the road ahead. With ACC, the GS adjusts to a speed and adapts the distance from the car in front. If necessary, the FCW collision warning system can take over the brake and actuate it in your place before hitting a giraffe or some lost Kangoo in the savanna. A rear radar monitors any overtaking by a cheetah and also sends a visual alert to predators approaching the rear too closely. The Adventure can also stoke your temptations with adaptive cornering headlights, electric bubble adjustment, and Pro riding modes (Dynamic / Dynamic Pro / Enduro Pro).
Derived from the R 1300 GS, the Adventure has its own frame and thus a radically different design from the 1250…. And from several generations before it. The tubular steel trellis has been replaced by a more rigid steel sheet structure, complemented by an aluminum tube and forged parts rear frame. The front frame has also made a leap, with a heavily revised Telelever EVO to offer a more pronounced feel. Braking is ensured by 4-piston radial calipers clamping 310 mm discs. At the rear, the Paralever EVO has been extended since the 1250 to offer more traction. Here, the brake acts via 2 pistons on a 285 mm disc. The ABS, vigilant to the angle, is reactive and distributes braking force between the front and rear.
Designed for more adventurous escapades, the GSA has increased its suspension travel: 20 mm more than on the “road” GS. This provides a little more ground clearance, better absorption of some difficulties, and a slight increase in rake and wheelbase. However, there is still no sport bubble. Once again, BMW surprises everyone with a new 1300. This Adventure GS will be able to roar with a very successful and powerful engine, under a massive Lego-inspired silhouette. Remarkable, that’s the least we can say. The level of performance is expected to be very high – as is the price, especially at the end of the configurator. Travelers, zebras, sequoias and Aztec pyramids have not finished talking about it.

As with the standard R 1300 GS, you don’t choose a GS and then customize it… You choose a GS profile based on the intended use and then enhance it:
- The "base" Racing Red version offers a silver tank, black and red seats, black handlebars and black rims as well as red handguard extensions to offer contrast.
- In Triple Black, the BMW R 1300 GS Adventure is adorned with shades of black, for the bodywork, the standard engine protection with silver inserts, the handlebars and the rims; associated with gray handguards, large aluminum radiator covers and black/gray heated seats to create the traditional Triple Black style palette. A luggage rack and a tall bubble with large air deflectors complete this characteristic style.
- On a more sporty side, the GS Trophy style. Avus Black matt metallic textured parts create a marked contrast with the aluminum parts. Red and black seats, as well as red handguard extensions are associated with stainless steel engine protection and black spoked rims. Black grilles located in front of the headlights and auxiliary projectors offer effective protection against stones. A smaller sport bubble and sport hand grips reinforce the sporty character. Large radiator covers and an aluminum tank with lashing eyes also constitute robust anchoring points.
- More upscale, the Option 719 Karakorum finish highlights a premium color scheme, gold details and the Shadow machined parts set. Engine protection is painted black and handguards are gray. In addition to the aluminum radiator covers and black projector protection grilles, the motorcycle is equipped with two black and gray heated comfort seats, a luggage rack and a sport bubble.
