Overview
When Noale unveiled the Aprilia Tuono 660 concept in 2019, the question wasn't "if" but "when." Two years later, the answer arrived in the form of a roadster that borrows the genes of the RS 660 and dresses them in a handlebar and a fighter's face. What the Aprilia Tuono 660 2021 offers is worth a serious look.

This 270-degree parallel twin — the very same unit that powers the RS 660 — is an engine with a strong character. Aprilia slightly reduced the power output compared to the sportbike, leaving it with 95 horsepower at 10,500 rpm, while fully preserving the 67 Nm of torque at 8,500 rpm. For a 660cc machine, this output is striking: the Kawasaki Z 650 and Yamaha MT-07 top out around 70 horsepower on comparable displacements. On the Aprilia Tuono 660 spec sheet, the power-to-displacement ratio places the Tuono in a class of its own. The gearbox ratios have been shortened to compensate for the slight power deficit and sharpen drive out of corners. The Aprilia Tuono 660 top speed, rated at 220 km/h, is consistent with this level of mechanical expression.
The bodywork follows the broad lines of the RS, with internal winglets directing airflow, an aggressively styled triple headlight, and wide shoulders that give the silhouette real presence. This is not a stripped-down motorcycle: the belly pan rises high, the flanks are fully faired, and passengers will have little to celebrate at the rear. The Aprilia Tuono 660 vs RS 660 comes down to the same technical platform with a more upright rider position, a handlebar in place of clip-ons, and a slightly revised steering geometry. The twin-spar aluminum frame, which uses the engine as a structural element, tips the scales at 183 kg fully fueled — identical to the sportbike. The KYB inverted fork, recalibrated for roadster use, and the four-piston Brembo front brakes round out a chassis package that has nothing to be ashamed of next to a Triumph Street Triple.
The standard onboard electronics are substantial for the segment: ride-by-wire, multi-level traction control, anti-wheelie, engine braking management, cruise control, ABS, and five riding modes including two track-oriented ones. The color TFT screen is included from the outset. The quickshifter, IMU, and associated functions such as cornering ABS and lean-sensitive traction control move into the options column, which is somewhat disappointing given the asking price. This is precisely where the Aprilia Tuono 660 Factory comes in, with a more complete specification for those who don't want to play with the Aprilia Tuono 660 accessories list after purchase.
The price of €10,550 clearly positions this machine above the MT-07, SV 650, and Trident 660 trio. The Aprilia Tuono 660 price brings it closer to the sporting middleweights, territory where the Street Triple has been setting the standard for years. The engine still lacks the displacement to compete on torque with 800-900cc machines, but the chassis and electronics are solid enough that an Aprilia Tuono 660 test ride won't end in disappointment. Another notable advantage: the 95 horsepower allows A2 restriction without complex surgery, opening a significant market for the Aprilia Tuono 660 A2. For those searching for a used Aprilia Tuono 660 a few seasons down the line, the platform shared with the RS 660 guarantees a reliable and well-bred foundation. Aprilia has rarely managed to balance accessibility and character so successfully within a single chassis.
