Overview

Choosing Aprilia is rarely a trivial act. The brand from Noale doesn't build motorcycles for those who hesitate on the edge of the track. When a rider crosses the threshold of an Italian dealership, they know what they’re looking for, and it’s not the tranquility of a Sunday morning on a friendly trail bike. The Factory range embodies this philosophy to its sharpest extreme: taking an already refined base and making it even more aggressive.

Aprilia Tuono 660 Factory

The Aprilia Tuono 660 Factory 2022 is based on a 660 cc parallel-twin engine that produces 100 horsepower at 10,500 rpm, for a torque of 68 Nm available at 8,500 rpm. These figures speak for themselves in a category where direct competition, the MT-07 in particular, plays in a noticeably less nervous register. The real trick lies in the weight: 181 kg fully fueled, which is a power-to-weight ratio that leaves few rivals at this displacement level. A lithium battery has allowed for a reduction of two kilos compared to the standard version, a detail that seems anecdotal on paper, but that the arms feel from the first tight turn. The difference between the Factory and the standard Tuono 660 is not limited to a few extra horsepower; it’s a complete recalibration of intent. The parallel-twin had been restricted to meet A2 license criteria, a logical constraint on the entry-level version. The Factory recovers this power and goes further, with a shortened transmission thanks to a 16-tooth drive pinion, one less tooth than the base version. Acceleration exits the curve with added urgency, perceptible from the first few miles.

The chassis deserves attention, because that’s where the essence of an Aprilia Tuono 660 Factory test is played out. The 41 mm Kayaba inverted fork is fully adjustable for preload, compression, and rebound damping, as is the rear shock. Öhlins remains reserved for the RSV4 and Tuono 1100 Factory, which remains consistent with the technical specifications and pricing position. At 10,999 euros, the bike can’t promise everything, and the choice of Kayaba is not a shameful concession: it’s a serious supplier, simply less premium. Four-piston Brembo brakes with ABS at the front ensure reassuring bite, and the cornering ABS provided by the IMU inertial platform enhances active safety in conditions that few bikes of this displacement still offer. Five riding modes, including two dedicated to the track, an APRC electronic pack with traction control, engine braking management, anti-wheeling, and a bi-directional quickshifter as standard: the technical specifications of the Aprilia Tuono 660 Factory are dizzying for a 660 cc roadster.

The only objective criticism concerns the bodywork. The dominant black with a few red accents gives a restrained, almost austere result for a machine with this temperament. The standard version allows for much more expressive colors, which creates a somewhat frustrating reversal: the most radical bike wears the most discreet robe. A seat cowl completes the silhouette and improves the solo look, but the passenger seat is not included. On the used market, the Aprilia Tuono 660 Factory remains a sought-after value precisely because the competition has not yet responded with equivalent consistency in this segment.

Aprilia Tuono 660 Factory

This roadster is aimed at a rider who has digested their first few years of an A license and is looking for a bike capable of progressing with them, on the road and on the track. Versatile without being lukewarm, sporty without the discomfort of a true supersport, the Aprilia Tuono 660 Factory 2022 draws a clear line between what it is and what it refuses to be. And this clarity, in a often muddled market, is already worth a lot.
