Overview

The Factory versions of Aprilia sportbikes have always been the pinnacle of the company's production, dedicated to the most demanding and experienced riders who recognize the quality of their exceptionally refined equipment. The public so appreciated the previous Tuono 660 Factory that Aprilia decided to make it the sole model in the range, confident of having a means of exquisite entertainment with unmatched dynamic qualities.

The new Tuono 660 Factory is a true generator of emotions within everyone's reach, perfectly in line with the Aprilia 660 project for motorcycles with exceptional power-to-weight ratios, lightweight and high-performing, built around its new-generation, highly modern and technological, inline twin-cylinder engine.

To be even more incisive and fun on the road, the new Aprilia Tuono 660 Factory has taken another step forward in equipment by integrating advanced Öhlins suspension: the fork is a NIX 30 series with 43 mm stems, while the STX 46 shock absorber features an integrated reservoir. Both units can be precisely adjusted for damping in both rebound and compression, as well as spring preload.

Further improvement of the power-to-weight ratio, one of the main objectives of all Aprilia 660 motorcycles and already at the top on the previous version: the dry weight of 181 kg is now combined with the new peak power value of 105 hp provided by the 660 cm3 transverse inline twin-cylinder engine with dual overhead camshafts and four valves per cylinder, also achieved thanks to the use of larger 52 mm throttle bodies instead of the previous 48 mm. There is also a 35 kW limited version: a compact and lightweight new-generation unit, the result of experience gained on the extremely powerful engine installed on the RSV4, with which it shares the same construction philosophy and basic concepts. The engine also acts as a stressed member, with its rear area housing the aluminum fork. The combustion chambers are asymmetrical, offset by 270° to obtain irregular ignition, and therefore performance and sounds similar to those of a V-twin engine. This arrangement contributes to creating a compact, lightweight, yet rigid structure thanks to a frame with two bolted side beams in the steering head area and in the rear section, echoing Aprilia’s tradition of producing quality chassis. For the first time on the Tuono 660, the frame/swingarm assembly is painted in bright black.

The Tuono 660 Factory is equipped as standard with the complete APRC electronics suite, with Ride-by-Wire electronic throttle and a 6-axis inertial platform. The latter, thanks to the accelerometers and gyroscopes it contains, is able to recognize the motorcycle's status relative to the road; it records and processes the inputs obtained during driving and sends the data to the control unit which intervenes to optimize the control parameters.

The Tuono 660 Factory APRC now features launch control (ALC) – the system that manages standing starts and which is normally used on competition motorcycles. The APRC includes ATC (Aprilia Traction Control) – a traction control characterized by very high-performing fine intervention logics; AWC (Aprilia Wheelie Control) – the adjustable wheelie control system; ACC (Aprilia Cruise Control) to maintain the set speed without using the throttle; AQS (Aprilia Quick Shift) – an electronic gearbox for very fast gear changes without releasing the throttle or using the clutch (and also featuring a downshift function to downshift without touching the clutch); AEB (Aprilia Engine Brake) – the adjustable engine braking control system during the throttle release phase; and AEM (Aprilia Engine Map) which provides different mappings to modify the character and the way the engine distributes power. As before, the Tuono 660 Factory features multi-map Cornering ABS, a system (of extremely limited weight and size) that optimizes braking and ABS intervention in corners thanks to a specific algorithm that continuously monitors various parameters such as lateral acceleration, pressure on the front brake lever, and steering, roll, and pitch angles, modulating the action of the brakes to best combine deceleration and stability.

The Aprilia Tuono 660 Factory has also improved its onboard electronics: the most luxurious accessories now include new backlit handlebar controls and a larger (5") new-color dashboard with optical bonding (which increases brightness and reduces reflections), capable of providing more information. The design of the new Tuono 660 Factory continues to stand out for its small footpegs, which emphasize its sporty character, and for the innovative choice of a double fairing acting as an aerodynamic appendix: the air pressure channeled between the two walls contributes to increasing stability at high speed and at the same time improves rider comfort and protects him from direct flows, even diverting hot air drawn from the engine. The new Tuono 660 Factory is distinguished by superstructure changes to the front area design and by the absence of a pushrod under the engine (avoiding additional weight), not to mention its more aerodynamic style. Accessories also include a monoseat that can replace the passenger seat – lighter than the previous one and with a renewed design that increases space for the rider, allowing him to sit further back to ensure better air protection when lying on the tank.
