Overview
There are machines that can’t decide on a camp, and that’s precisely what makes them endearing. The Aprilia Pegaso 650 Trail 2007 belongs to this family of versatile trail bikes that refuse to be boxed in, preferring to navigate between asphalt and dirt track without complexes or pretension.

To understand this model, you have to go back a few years. Aprilia had beefed up the original Pegaso in Strada version to respond to the supermotards of the time, a register where the competition had already established itself. Then the brand from Noale decided to rediscover the origins of the trail bike: spoked wheels shod in mixed tires, prominent fenders under the fork head, suspension travel revised to absorb off-the-beaten-path trails. The result is the Aprilia Pegaso 650 Trail, a motorcycle designed for those who want to commute to work in the city on Monday and enjoy a forest track on Sunday.
The engine, for its part, hasn't moved a millimeter. We find the 660 cc four-stroke single-cylinder block from Yamaha workshops, with its four valves and injection. Aprilia played with the mapping to extract 50 horsepower at 6000 rpm and 59 Nm of torque at 5000 rpm, figures slightly higher than what the Japanese version produced from the same block. It’s modest on paper, but on a chassis that weighs 168 kg dry, it confers a real ease of operation. We are far from the brutality of a true enduro mount, but that’s not the objective. Ease of use is prioritized over brute performance.
The cycle section is consistent with this philosophy. The 45 mm fork, the Sachs mono-shock with preload and rebound adjustment, the progressive linkage APS system: the whole is solid, well thought out, without being revolutionary. The same can be said of the brakes, with a stainless steel floating disc at the front and a single disc at the rear. The wheelbase of 1510 mm and a ground clearance of 270 mm give the machine the temperament of a serious touring bike, not a desert explorer. Those who frequent the forums of the Aprilia Pegaso 650 Trail know this well: the machine invites progression rather than risk-taking.
Aprilia has taken care of the daily equipment with a care that sometimes lacks in competitors. Two storage trunks, a mixed analog and digital instrument cluster managed from the left handlebar switch, an adjustable bubble in two positions: the Aprilia Pegaso 650 Trail 2007 clearly addresses the rider who uses his motorcycle, not just the one who collects it. The 820 mm seat may deter shorter riders, but Aprilia offered an option to raise it by an additional 40 mm. A deliberate paradox. The 16-liter tank allows for correct autonomy, compatible with weekend getaways.
At 6499 euros at its release, the machine positioned itself in a segment occupied by monos of comparable displacement. Used Aprilia Pegaso 650 Trail models remain accessible on the secondary market, which explains the persistent interest of enthusiasts on specialized forums. For the urban motorcyclist who wants to venture off the beaten path without inflicting a motocross bike on the road, this Pegaso Trail represents a frank and well-built response, without unnecessary frippery.
