Overview
When Aprilia applies the Factory label to one of its machines, it's not a simple marketing operation. It's a promise. The RSV1000 R Factory demonstrated this most spectacularly, with its Öhlins suspension and exceptional finishes. On the Pegaso 650, the approach is more modest in ambition, but follows the same logic: take a solid base and offer it that little extra soul that makes the difference between a functional motorcycle and a desirable one.

What immediately strikes you are the gold-spoked rims in 17-inch size. This characteristic hue of the Factory series is not just an aesthetic flourish; it visually signifies belonging to a family where finish is paramount. Radial braking completes the picture, still entrusted to a 320 mm disc at the front, but now better exploited by a radial mount caliper. For a machine that tops out at 160 km/h and weighs 168 kg dry, it's the right solution. The Factory version also features an aluminum handlebar, frame and pipe protection, a carbon fiber front fender, and a 20 mm raised seat, bringing the height to 780 mm, making it a motorcycle accessible to an average build without sacrificing the riding position.
The 660 cc single-cylinder engine, with an 84 mm stroke for a 100 mm bore, develops 48 horsepower at 6000 rpm and 59 Nm of torque at 5000 rpm. These figures don't inspire dreams on paper, but the temperament of a large single is experienced differently from a twin or a four-cylinder engine. The injection, reputed to be a little capricious on this generation, requires a certain complicity with the rider, a character trait rather than a disabling defect. The five-speed gearbox and chain transmission complete a set designed for everyday practicality as well as weekend getaways.
Faced with a Yamaha XT660X or a KTM 640 Duke of the same era, the Pegaso Factory positions itself on a more versatile, less radical register. It targets the rider who wants a machine usable every day, capable of swallowing mountain switchbacks with pleasure, without the nervousness of a pure supermotard. At 7549 euros, it indulges in premium finishes that its direct competitors do not necessarily offer within this price range. The rear suspension with Aprilia’s APS system, the tubular steel cradle frame, and the high-strength steel swingarm constitute a proven, reassuring technical base rather than an exciting one.
The Pegaso 650 Factory is not a motorcycle for those seeking to push limits. It is a coherent proposition for an intermediate rider, having moved on from a small displacement without wanting to fight with a liter bike, who wants a motorcycle with a defined character without the intensive maintenance of competition machines. The Factory label gives it a strong visual identity and a few real technical assets, without fundamentally changing what the Pegaso is at its origin: a charming all-rounder, honest in its promises, and premium enough that you’re going to want to keep it clean.
