Overview

When Aprilia affixes the "Factory" badge to a machine, it's not a disguised marketing operation. It's a promise, a precise specification that the brand from Noale sets for itself since its RSV4 and Tuono R iterations: weight reduction, refined settings, noble materials. The Aprilia Dorsoduro 750 Factory therefore undergoes this favored treatment, and the result is full of character.

Aprilia Dorsoduro 750 Factory

The first distinctive sign that catches the eye: this bright red painted tubular trellis frame, barely concealed under dark bodywork. It's hard to miss the signal. Aprilia has dressed a significant portion of this version in carbon fiber, including the front mudguard, side fairings, and fuel tank cover. This isn't cosmetic carbon glued onto an ordinary machine; it's a consistent approach to keep dry weight at 185 kg on a motorcycle that peaks at 92 horsepower at 8750 rpm. This 749 cc V2, with its 82 Nm of torque available from 4250 rpm, knows how to be brutal in the low revs before climbing frankly towards the top of the tachometer.

The suspension deserves a nuance. On other Factory versions of the range, Aprilia systematically mounts Öhlins components. This is not the case here, and honesty requires us to point it out. The 43 mm Sachs inverted fork and the monoblock shock remain fully adjustable in preload, compression, and rebound, which the standard version does not offer. This is a serious difference in terms of adjustment possibilities, and riders who like to work on their settings will find material to personalize the machine. The 160 mm wheel travel of both trains recalls the supermotard DNA of the machine, designed to juggle between broken asphalt and circuit.

The electronic equipment and braking follow a consistent logic with the positioning. Ride by Wire injection managed by a triple-mapping ECU allows adapting the engine response according to the rider's mood and conditions. Four-piston Brembo radial calipers bite on petal discs, a classic configuration of sporty machines but still little common in 2010 on a supermotard of this displacement. Facing a KTM 990 SMR or a Husqvarna SMR 511 of the time, Aprilia plays the card of electronic sophistication and refinement rather than brute force.

The price of 9849 euros places it in a category where perfection is expected on every point. This is where the absence of Öhlins leaves a bitter taste, especially since ABS represents an optional charge of approximately 600 euros extra. This Dorsoduro Factory is aimed at an experienced rider, comfortable with high-saddle machines of 870 mm and motorcycles that demand physical involvement. The Sunday touring rider looking for a versatile machine will pass by; it is a machine for enthusiasts, designed for those who know why they choose it. On the market for used Aprilia Dorsoduro 750 Factory, well-maintained examples retain a solid value, proof that the recipe has convinced beyond the launch enthusiasm.
