Overview
Within the Yamaha 2022 lineup, the “Speed Block” color scheme is the one you’ll see the most this year. And for good reason: all sport models will receive it to celebrate the brand’s 60 years of GP – from the 125 to the hypersport. Between the two, a mid-size presents a reasonable and sporty choice.
Consequently, enthusiasts interested in a mid-capacity motorcycle will turn to the R7. An engine that isn’t too powerful and a track-focused attitude will give young fans of trajectories something to work with. The “anniversary” livery brings a breath of joy and color to the rather sad panel of other choices. The R7, like all other R models, is only available in abyssal black or lead blue.
The younger generation will appreciate the old-school feel. The older generation will be transported to a distant era when Grand Prix Yamahas were all about this red and white. A “number plate” style marking adorns the front while the wheels look great with a gold finish. A specific 60th Anniversary World GP badge is placed on the tank, adorning this machine.
Yamaha has not yet announced the price of this edition but we assume that it will be necessary to add 300 euros to the bill. Otherwise, no technical differences between this anniversary series and the standard 700 R7. The latter relies on the CP2 twin of 689 cm3 and the frame of the MT-07 to carve out a place in the ring of gentle sportbikes. Its front end, on the other hand, is very different from that of the roadster with an inverted fork and low clip-ons forcing an aggressive riding position.
Hardly arrived, the R7 is already entitled to commemorative honors. Its styling will inspire you to fight, while its 73 horsepower may seem just right. Unless you quickly learn to master the trajectories. That's what all the guys honored by this special series have done.
