Overview
You thought the R6 had said goodbye to the road? Yamaha Austria Racing Team responds with a declaration of war, and not just with a sticker. This YART YZF-R6 20th Anniversary, at 20,000 euros, is not a simple commemoration in red and white. It's a track missile disguised as a collector's item, a radical reinterpretation of the 600 sportbike concept itself.

The nod is obvious, a perfect graphic tribute to the first R6s of 1999. But beneath this vintage attire lies a profound transformation. YART didn't just repaint an existing motorcycle. They systematically stripped the machine of everything that tied it to the road: headlights, mirrors, turn signals, and license plate are removed. The fairing is replaced with a track version, the seat becomes a racing model, and an Akrapovic exhaust unleashes the voice of the inline four-cylinder engine. The result? A significant weight reduction, the machine flirting with 180 kg fully fueled, and a power gain that should take the 599 cc engine well beyond the official 125 horsepower.
Compared to a standard R6, this creation is a different species. It is no longer anything like a road sportbike, even a sharp one. It positions itself rather as a little sister to the R1 GYTR, a ready-to-race track machine for the serious amateur rider. At this price, it faces homemade preparations or offers from specialized manufacturers. Its advantage? An impeccable Yamaha base, a preparation carried out by a world-renowned Endurance team, and this immediate historical pedigree.
The target audience is unambiguous: the passionate track rider looking for a high-performance machine, with a unique character and a history. This is not a motorcycle for beginners on the track; its price and natural aggressiveness reserve it for those who already know the dance of the apexes. On the track, its estimated 128 horsepower and refined Deltabox frame should offer surgical precision, while the radial braking and standard suspension, probably reworked, should handle the load.
Ultimately, this YART R6 Anniversary is a double-edged sword. A magnificent tribute for nostalgics of the 600 sportbike, but above all a formidable track weapon for those who have the means and the ability to use it. It proves that the spirit of the R6, this hysterical bundle of nerves, is not dead. It has simply migrated from public roads to the tarmac of race tracks, more ferocious and more determined than ever.
