Overview
Who said you necessarily needed an American V-twin to shake the pavement and spines? With the XV1900A Midnight Star, Yamaha throws a stone into the pond of large customs, a colossus of 1854 cm³ proudly defending the Japanese flag on the field of raw vibrations. It’s far from the finesse of a sportbike; here, the objective is clear: to deliver insane torque and an overwhelming physical presence. Barely 90 horsepower? It doesn't matter, because the essential rumble starts at 2500 rpm with a torque of 154.9 Nm, enough to pull its 347 kg with the authority of a locomotive. This air- and oil-cooled twin is a masterpiece, a long-stroke engine that pulses more than it turns, skillfully balanced to retain only the good shivers.

The look is a declaration in itself. Long, low, with a seat at 73.5 cm, the Midnight Star commands respect. It freely draws on the imagination of American cruisers: generous chrome, spoked wheels, a unique front light, and an exhaust as wide as an arm. Yet, beneath this retro suit lies modern technology. The frame is cast aluminum, a process inherited from the R1 sportbike to lighten the beast and optimize rigidity. Even the swingarm follows this philosophy. It's an interesting synthesis between old-school aesthetics and contemporary engineering.
On the saddle, the experience is… massive. Filtering through the city with this giant is akin to port maneuvers, and its 16-liter tank reminds you that stops will be frequent. But on the open road, the beast finds its balance. The 46 mm fork and single shock absorber swallow imperfections without drama, while the braking, assisted by the unified U.B.S. system that couples the action on both wheels, brings this mass back with correct conviction, without being transcendent. At €16,999, it attacks territory occupied by the Harley-Davidson Softail and the Indian Chief. Its asset? A presumed exemplary reliable engine and this accessible torque that makes riding relaxed.
The Yamaha XV1900A Midnight Star doesn't seek to please everyone. It clearly targets the globetrotter who prioritizes sensation over pure performance, who wants an authentic-looking custom without the mechanical quirks sometimes associated with it. It’s a machine for those who believe that the road is savored to the sound of a large twin's throbbing, and that kilometers are counted in greasy smiles rather than lap times. A cruiser that fully embraces its character, for better or for worse.
