Overview

Since the conclusion of the 1200 Super Ténéré Worldcrosser, Yamaha has not returned to the realm of long-distance adventure bikes. Instead, the 700 Ténéré models have capitalized on the unwavering aura of adventure associated with the brand. Returning in 2026, the World Raid version benefits from all the recent improvements to the T7 while retaining its more committed specifications. Raids and rally riders, here's what will fuel your journeys.

A Ténéré, whatever its version and year, remains a Ténéré. With small or large modifications, they are instantly recognizable. This sense of identity and reassurance allows the torch to be passed from one generation to the next while preserving the reputation. Thus, the evolution of the new World Raid does not immediately stand out, as it retains the traits of the previous model. Taking a closer look, the reshaped headlight with its square lenses (from the standard 700 Ténéré) immediately catches the eye, signaling its new arrangements.

Curiosity descends and allows you to appreciate the redesign of the flanks, the under-seat fairings, the aluminum skid plate, and the fuel tank. This is one of the key elements of the World Raid. With a capacity of 23 liters, 7 more than the Ténéré, it allows for long stages (announced at 500 km). It retains the same capacity as the previous model but weighs 1.5 kg less while adopting new shapes to improve rider comfort. This has led to a new monoblock seat design. It's worth noting that this is not one but two fuel tanks, connected to each other to balance fuel fluctuations. The two filler caps still have their effect, while remaining essential for refueling.

This is not all, far from it. The Yamaha of the wide-open spaces clearly seeks more robustness and technical consistency. To this end, the entire suspension system has been revised. For the front, a new, larger inverted fork, 46 mm in diameter (+3 mm), will offer more rigidity as well as more comfort thanks to revised springs and settings. These can be widely adapted, as the fork and shock absorber are adjustable in all directions. The latter also gains in efficiency with more travel, more oil in the reservoir, and optimized linkage. These elements remain at 230 mm and 220 mm respectively, 20 mm more than the base Ténéré.

Which receives its reworked frame, still not detachable at the rear subframe. The machine is fitted with a new steering damper with 16 settings, a new exhaust bracket, new switchgear, and a good dose of additional electronics. But before that, let's stay with the ground contact points. It is still primarily its body that will take you everywhere. The wheels are a very good indicator, fulfilling the same type of mission as before with dimensions of 21 and 18 inches, Pirelli Scorpion Rally STR tires, and a very off-road tire profile with 90/90 at the front. The rear is 150/70. No changes to report on the brakes, except for the appearance of aviation hoses to actuate the Brembo 2-piston calipers. Braking has always been well-calibrated for the Ténéré; the 282 mm front and 245 mm rear discs will do their job. Weighing 220 kg on the scale before embarking on luggage and crew, the bike has neither gained nor lost weight.

Just like the CP2 twin-cylinder engine. Its update to meet Euro5+ has recently reduced its character, but the torque distribution is more linear and a little fuller at low rpm. Under the grip, the rider is entitled to 73.4 horsepower. They know how to be effective. Except that they will have to start watching out for the competition. Facing them, the Chinese want to carve out this terrain and brandish 95 horsepower for a more accessible budget. The Ténéré can still rely on its legend and its qualities, but the ground is rumbling.

Is that why Yamaha has enriched its equipment, or because the call of the open road rhymes with armament? In any case, the Ténéré World Raid now includes a regulator and speed limiter, an IMU inertial measurement unit, cornering ABS, traction control, two power modes (Sport / Explorer), and a slip control system (SCS). Quite an addition! To think that the previous version only had a 3-mode ABS... Those who appreciated the techno-numerical sobriety of the first T7 may be less fond of the new setup – one doesn't necessarily have a Cray computer at hand between the Atlas and the oasis.

What is Yamaha telling us about these assists? "The lean-sensitive TCS and SCS both use data from the IMU to regulate engine power and control traction and slip according to the rider's choice. Both systems offer three modes: STREET, OFF ROAD, and OFF – allowing riders to choose the optimal level of assistance in traction and slip, whether on the road or off-road." The ABS is also sensitive to the angle and can still intervene according to 3 laws: either active everywhere, or deactivated on the rear to let it drift at its convenience, or completely switched off on both wheels when you have the skill to play with it.

The World Raid opted for a color TFT screen from its first version in 2022, while the standard model retained an obsolete LCD system for one last year. The dashboard grows to 6.3 inches, still in a vertical road-book style and equipped with three display themes: "Street", like the T7 for road use; "Explorer" for off-road riding; "Raid" with two highlighted long trips. The Smartphone can connect to it, providing turn-by-turn navigation, recording a host of parameters during your outings, and of course managing calls, messages, and music.

This is a major update for the Yamaha Ténéré 700 World Raid. It knows how to retain all the specificities that make it a super Ténéré – with now a whole series of electronic crutches. They will not open the doors to raids; but they want to play a role until then, and why not perpetuate it once the arches are crossed.

The 700 Ténéré World Raid will be accessible in A2 version. Once restricted, its power is then reduced to 47.6 horsepower at 8,000 rpm and 68 Nm at 6,500 rpm.
