Overview

Following its Street Rally MT-09 makeover, Yamaha is back with a fresh take on the model, this time with the Sport Tracker. The style is clearly influenced by the Dirt Track universe, with a touch of Scrambler thrown in for good measure. Another personalization exercise, to add a little extra to the sparkling roadster that is the MT-09.

The use of aluminum and carbon components gives the Sport Tracker a unique look tinged with a racing spirit. The finish is refined, and without upsetting the machine’s identity, this bodywork reinforces its Dark Side. The motorcycle features a short carbon front fender with an aluminum mounting bracket and a license plate in the same metal. Located at the front, it accentuates the motocross look. The side plates, as well as the handlebar, are machined from aluminum to emphasize the Scrambler feel. The angular-shaped fuel tank is fitted with knee grips, the two-tone seat is in brown leather and black Alcantara. These elements, as well as the new wide footrests, allow the rider to have the right position and good sensations during acceleration, braking and in corners. In this respect, the 850 cm3 triple knows how to convince. Available from 4000 rpm, full of enthusiasm and a bundle of nerves, the CP3 receives traction control in 2016. Just enough to curb overly optimistic acts of bravery. TCS offers two levels of intervention, minimum (1) or maximum (2), and the possibility of disconnecting it.

Yamaha is also playing with colors: the frame is black, as is the engine; the valve cover and rims are covered in bronze while the forks strike with their gold coating. Finally, it’s a shame that the Akrapovic exhaust is an option. Its high position perfectly serves the Street Scrambler orientation (nothing to do with the Voxan of the same name).

Tumultuous machine but short career. The Sport Tracker must retire in mid-2016.
