Overview
Among the A2-licence roadsters, few display such an obvious coherence between style and purpose. The Yamaha MT-03 is aimed primarily at young riders who refuse to sacrifice character for the sake of accessibility. An urban and versatile roadster, it bridges the gap between learning to ride and the pleasure of riding, without ever feeling like a stopgap in the lineup. The 2025 edition pushes this logic even further, with a visual presentation that clearly draws from the larger siblings in the MT family.
The heart of the machine remains the 321 cc parallel-twin, rated at 42 horsepower and updated to meet Euro 5+ requirements. The claimed torque of 29 Nm doesn't set records on paper, but it comes through with a welcome consistency across a wide rev range, making progression feel natural and reassuring. Up against a KTM 390 Duke or a BMW G 310 R, the yamaha mt-03 doesn't always win on outright punch, but it makes up for it with a smooth, easy-to-exploit engine character in day-to-day use. The well-spaced gearbox handles transitions between rev ranges effortlessly. As a first bike or an everyday machine, the MT-03's spec sheet remains convincing.
The chassis received particular attention in this evolution. The 37 mm upside-down fork is a genuine step forward over the previous 41 mm conventional unit: it delivers more precise steering and better support under cornering load. The rear shock has also been revised, with a firmer calibration that promotes rigidity without sacrificing comfort on degraded surfaces. Standard ABS, sensibly sized tyres, and single-disc braking at both ends form a coherent package for the power level involved. At 169.2 kg fully fuelled, it remains manageable and accessible, even for a rider of average build. The digital dashboard, inspired by that of the older MT-10, adds a welcome modern touch, complemented by slim LED indicators.
Priced at €6,499, the yamaha mt-03 sits in the upper-middle range of the 300–400 cc segment. That figure is justified by the overall build quality, the engine's proven reliability, and the decent resale value on the yamaha mt-03 used market. It makes no attempt to reinvent the wheel, and that is arguably its greatest strength: offering a stable, coherent, and well-rounded package — without the rough edges that might discourage a beginner, or the blandness that might bore a more experienced rider. In its category, it remains one of the most balanced references, backed by a now assertive style and a tried-and-tested engine. A solid choice, free from empty promises.
