Overview
Who remembers the first Yamaha MT-03 320, the one that played the well-behaved student in a family of hooligans? Wedged between the unapologetic brutality of the MT-09 and the excess of the MT-10, the little roadster almost looked out of place with its overly smooth face. For 2026, Yamaha decided to graft on the character it was missing. The result? A machine that finally snarls from the front, with a sharp face and lines borrowed from its big sisters. The transformation is real, even if it remains cosmetic in many respects.

Style-wise, the metamorphosis is striking. The aggressive dual headlight gives this MT-03 an urban predator look it never had before. The lateral scoops, directly inspired by the previous-generation MT-09, visually widen the silhouette and lend it a more assertive stance. The digital dashboard, inherited from the former MT-10 in a simplified version, brings a welcome premium touch to this segment. The slender LED turn signals finish modernizing the package. We do regret, however, the ungainly lower headlight and a horn that's still all too visible — two details that somewhat spoil the party.
The real technical progress lies in the front end. The 37 mm inverted fork replaces the old conventional unit and promises sharper turn-in behavior. Paired with a recalibrated rear shock, mounted on the unchanged Diamond-type steel frame, this upgrade should make the ride more incisive without betraying the machine's accessible nature. Braking remains modest with a single 298 mm front disc gripped by a two-piston caliper, and a 220 mm rear disc. ABS stands watch. Nothing revolutionary, but it's consistent for a bike weighing 167 kg wet, with a 780 mm seat height and a 14-liter tank.

Under the hood, no surprises. The 321 cc parallel twin delivers its 42 horsepower at 10,750 rpm and 29.5 Nm of torque at 9,000 rpm, now Euro 5+ compliant. The Yamaha MT-03 320's top speed caps out at 160 km/h, placing it squarely in the segment average. Against the KTM 390 Duke, punchier and better endowed in torque, or even the BMW G 310 R, which is lighter, the Yamaha doesn't dominate on paper. Its strength lies instead in the smoothness of its engine, its well-spaced six-speed gearbox, and a reliability proven through years of production. The motor is docile down low and gains urgency past 7,000 rpm, without ever turning brutal. Perfect for an A2 license.
The 2026 Yamaha MT-03 320 is priced at 6,599 euros in France, a rising bill that puts it neck and neck with its direct rivals. That's steep for a 300, but Yamaha is banking on equipment and brand image to justify the price tag. This second generation reinvents nothing — it refines. A sharper look, a more serious front end, a more polished presentation. For the young license holder who wants to ride a roadster without going unnoticed, the MT-03 remains a safe bet in the lineup. It won't shake the competition on track, but in urban traffic and on weekend back roads, it has everything it takes to get the job done with a touch of flair.
