Overview
It wasn't that she looked too sweet, but... a little bit, all the same. If the first MT-03 (in the 300 format) blended perfectly into the Master of Torque family, she became a little too phlegmatic in appearance compared to the faces of the MT-10 and MT-09.
That time is over, and this version 2 gains a menacing, even scabby, prow to face the roadsters of a segment that is taking on a certain importance.
Let's be playful, let's be flashy, so be it. The Yamaha is adorned with a particularly sharp, feline gaze. A pity that the mouth is obscured by a bubonic headlight. We'll have to deal with it, cursing at the same time the horn that we still haven't managed to hide. But we find a smile with the front end of this MT-03. A clear desire for sportiness emerges with the adoption of an inverted 37 mm fork instead of the classic 41 mm model. The riding can allow itself to be more incisive, more eager, without going to provoke the fire. Let's stay within its context, it's a 300.
Still equipped with its diamond-type tubular steel frame, it takes advantage of its redesign to recover a more rigid rear shock absorber with revised settings. The other elements of the chassis do not change. A disc brake per wheel, an ABS, tires that aren't too big, and it rolls.
2022 offered the engine its pass for Euro5, re-adapted in 2025 for the top level, namely E5+. Even if the MT-03 is far from selling as many units as its big sisters, its place within the range gains longevity. No weight gain or performance changes are to be reported. The ride is paced by the 321 cm3 twin-cylinder engine, with a good forty horsepower. Sufficient power to rub shoulders with the 390 Duke and G 310 R. The Yam will sometimes have to bow to the torque curves of the competition. The engine produces 3 mkg, which allows for a gentle takeoff and then twisting the throttle without fearing for the swingarm.
Yet, the MT-03 seems to want to distribute punch. It's not just its face in the menu of physiological modifications. Its body has worked on its shoulders, showing air intake vents with shapes very borrowed from the old MT-09. A nice injection of style, ending with a flattering update to the dashboard. To finish believing oneself on a machine of rank and grip, the digital block reproduces that of the exMT-10; in a simplified version. The slender LED turn signals conclude this evolution, with a much more fashionable finesse.
With this 2026 MT-03 II, Yamaha does not shake up the game but offers much more aplomb to its A2 initiation roadster. Meaner in appearance, wanting to hold the front better, the machine also wants its share of panther in the MT family. The price climbs again, the ambitions too.
