Overview
The Street Triple is once again allowed to come and play in the A2 category. For a long time, Triumph’s formidable roadster maintained a disposition towards young riders. First with the 675; then with the 660 version when the 765 arrived on the market. But when the 660 Trident appeared, capable of being restricted to 35 kW, the manufacturer quickly realized that it was cannibalizing the 660 Street Triple and removed it from the catalog.
Consequently, young wolves found themselves without a Street to sink their teeth into. Especially its nervous design, its vindictive face, its unadulterated feeling of sporty and provocative roadster. It’s as if the public took offense, because 2025 (and a little before) reintroduces a Triple R with 70 kW in the package and what is needed to amputate half of it.
Without touching the engine. The 3-cylinder engines will continue to churn in the same displacement, with identical square-block dimensions, transmitting its force through the anti-slippage assisted clutch and the gearbox. With its 95 horsepower (at 10,100 rpm), this machine slots perfectly between the 81 hp of the Trident and the 120 horses of the standard R model. Peak torque is recorded at 7.2 mkg, at 8,750 rpm.
The little Triple loses 21% of its power and 1 mkg here. But let trajectory and efficiency enthusiasts rest assured, everything else on the bike is identical to the “full” R. Whether it's the frame, the fully adjustable Showa suspension, the Brembo M4.32 brakes, the tires, the 189 kg, or the ergonomics, the excellent road performance of the 765 Street Triple R will be maintained. There’s only the RS version to outdo it (intended for already bleeding riders).
The electronics are also identical, with the disengageable traction control, 4 Riding Modes (Road / Sport / Rain / Rider), a wheelie control, ABS, lean-angle sensitive assists, the Up&Down shifter, LED lighting, a USB socket, and a small TFT screen in the multifunctional dashboard (a little cheap in our opinion; the bike deserves better) where Bluetooth connectivity is activated – plan for the accessory module to enjoy all functions.
But is the risk of competition between the Trident and the Street about to return? Much less, because the price and power gaps are significant, because it’s no longer two 660 cc engines coexisting but a 660 and a 765, because the visual identity of the mid-size streetfighter appeals to a more belligerent audience than the more flexible design of the Trident; and besides, with one, you ride; the other, you show off… and with the RS, you perform surgery on the road.
The Street Triple 765 R A2 will arrive for back-to-school, with the same two colors and the same price as the R. You see, there’s really only the engine’s power that changes.
