Overview
Timeless! Retro in every detail, yet never behind the times with modernity. A subtle nod that says it all: the Bonneville headlight switches to LEDs in 2026, complemented by a daytime running light signature. Technically chic. Triumph also integrates two riding modes, Rain and Road, as well as an inertial measurement unit. With this, its ABS optimizes when cornering. A cruise control system appears in the options.
Without losing a crumb of its charm and identity, the T100 is gently improved. When were its last refinements made?
When Euro5 took care of it. The upgrade was carried out in conjunction with a significant increase in power. The same upgrade that was performed in 2019 on the Street Twin.
Technically, this allowed for a gain of 10 hp for a total of 65 horsepower. The Bonneville regained almost the watts it had before its major overhaul of 2017. Add to that its more generous torque than the previous 865 cm3 generation, a redline moved back 500 rpm, more low-end torque throughout the tachometer range, and you get a 900 with the grunt of a different breed. A few technical improvements allowed for weight reduction and a more responsive handling. The twin retains its 8.2 kg-m of torque, now located a little higher.
Well, the fork gaiters have disappeared, the metallic finish on the engine casings is hidden behind black, the chrome on the rims is gone... In return, the Triumph has lost a few kilos, improved its braking, revised the fork specifications with new cartridges for greater efficiency, refined its instrumentation, and added heel guards. Like the other machines in this segment, more retro than neo, the English bike lets the charm work. Time flies, the idea endures.
The "small" Bonnie perpetuates in turn the spirit and style of the original 1959 model. It leaves it to the T120 to offer more torque, more luxury, and the price that goes with it. Its thing is to be more accessible, both financially and mechanically. Not everyone wants a large twin; one can legitimately appreciate reasonable power, where the right wrist can be lively without fear of excesses. Or simply take it easy.
Perhaps less powerful but far from being outmatched in terms of technology. It steals a host of technologies from its big sister T120, also shared with the Street Twin, such as liquid cooling, ride-by-wire, ABS, traction control, an assist clutch, a USB socket, an encoded immobilizer, etc...
Less powerful but more svelte, the T100 wants to be more mischievous than the 1200 Bonnie. It has a lower seat, and a shorter wheelbase / rake. If the machine is less vigorous, it will, on the other hand, be more lively and agile. This T 100 is as eager for nostalgia as it is for accessories. A host of references await on the shelves. However, some elements, not available as an option, will remain the privilege of the 1200: the 6-speed gearbox, the high torque and the more powerful braking. For each Bonneville its niche: a stroll for walnuts or a bear hunt.
