Overview
The RX designation is gaining importance at Triumph. Following the enhanced 1200 Speed Triple, this badge now boosts the 765 Street Triple. The machine is already remarkably effective, preserving its leading position in the category with each generation. But Triumph wants and knows how to go further with this special series.
A little history? Briefly: the RX badge appeared in 2015 with the English, with a more inspired version of the 675 Street Triple. It became more streamlined with some cosmetic equipment, footrests positioned further back, better brakes, and the installation of a quickshifter.
Today, the Street Triple boasts top-of-the-line brakes (Brembo Stylema), an engine that delights, and a chassis that does a great job. However, the RX will bring what is needed to transcend its effectiveness with a clear objective: road supremacy or sights on the track. It’s in your hands that everything will be played, with a new front end that is very evocative, bordering on provocative. It consists of an Öhlins NIX 30 fully adjustable inverted fork. As with the Street Triple RS, on which the RX is based, the model is already equipped with a Swedish STX 40 shock absorber, the entire motorcycle is now suspended by Öhlins.
Just that, Triumph can do a very good job. Then the rider settles in, facing a delectable open-work headlight bracket made of solid machined aluminum. A laser-engraved RX logo reminds him on which machine he is mounted. Then comes the moment to grip the controls – the handlebar has made way for a pair of demi-handlebars, also beautifully made. The riding position is thus ready for attack, much more so than with the RS. The RS’s steering head angle is also very slightly more closed (from 23.2° to 23°) and the rake is reduced to gain even more agility when entering curves.
A little terror, to make you wear out slider boot soles at will. In addition to its more advanced chassis, the 765 Street Triple RX also stands out with a virulent look, a seat signed with its name, and a scheduled availability. It will only be available for one year, like the Collection series of the Modern Classics (the Icon, Stealth, and so on…). And obviously a price in line – expect a €1,100 increase from the RS. There’s nothing left to do but unleash the 130 horsepower of the 3-cylinder engine, heat up the Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa V3 tires, and lean into corners until you’re satisfied. If needed, Triumph will want to help you with its electronic aids: ABCornering, traction control, up & down quickshifter, and 5 Riding Modes (rain, road, sport, track, and rider).
The Street Triple Moto2 Edition makes you fantasize but the price calms you down; or there are simply none left… The RX will bring you as much sportiness and delicious madness in riding; without the premium side and the exclusive taste treatment of a collection series. Undoubtedly one of the best tools in the category, but more exclusive and constantly suggesting you lock a target.
