Overview

Who remembers Slippery Sam? That Trident 750 from the 1970s, as famous for its oil leaks as for its five consecutive victories at the Tourist Trophy between 1971 and 1975, wore the number 67. That's precisely the number Triumph chose to slap on the flanks of its 660 Trident Tribute Edition 2024. A well-aimed nod to an era when British machinery reeked of castor oil and fierce battling on the Isle of Man.

Triumph 660 Trident Tribute Edition

The Trident 660, in its standard version, already wins hearts with its rounded, compact silhouette — a design that stands apart from the more angular Japanese roadsters in the category. Triumph pushes things a notch further with this special edition. The graphic treatment draws on Union Jack motifs, applied across the tank, front fender, headlight cowl and tail tidy. The result is cohesive, sporty without being flashy. More importantly, the Tribute Edition doesn't settle for a flattering paint job. It comes equipped with a bidirectional quickshifter, a matching tinted fly screen and a two-piece aluminium belly pan. Triumph claims 900 euros' worth of additional equipment over the base version, all sold at the same price: 8,695 euros. Hard to turn down such a proposition. Only the Bluetooth module for smartphone connectivity remains optional, which feels a bit stingy on a limited edition.

Mechanically, the Trident retains its trump card: a 660 cc triple that nobody else offers in this segment. Neither the Kawasaki Z650, nor the Yamaha MT-07, nor the Honda CB650R can claim this engine architecture. The unit delivers 81 horsepower at 10,250 rpm and 64.7 Nm of torque at 6,250 rpm. Reasonable figures, deliberately restrained compared to what Triumph knows how to extract from this platform in the Daytona. The triple offers a smoothness and a soundtrack that Japanese parallel twins simply cannot replicate. It's a genuine selling point for riders seeking character without stepping up to the next segment.

Triumph 660 Trident Tribute Edition

On the chassis side, the recipe stays classic but effective. A tubular steel frame, a 41 mm inverted fork with 120 mm of travel, a rear monoshock offering 133 mm. Braking duties fall to Nissin two-piston calipers on 310 mm discs — they get the job done without pretending to rival higher-end hardware. At 189 kg wet and with an 805 mm seat height, the Trident remains an accessible motorcycle, suited for A2 licence holders with a restrictor kit and for riders who want a manageable package in the city and on back roads alike. The 14-litre tank does limit range on longer legs, but this isn't a touring bike. The onboard electronics prove decent for the price: two engine maps, a switchable traction control system, full LED lighting and a hybrid LCD/colour TFT instrument cluster.

Triumph 660 Trident Tribute Edition

Triumph is playing a smart hand here. Like the Stealth, Chrome and Gold Line editions before it, the Tribute Edition will be produced for a single year only. This planned scarcity, combined with an unbeatable equipment-to-price ratio and a well-crafted historical tribute, arguably makes it the best gateway into the Triumph universe today. Up against competitors that often look bland in their special finishes, the little Brit has what it takes to turn heads in the showrooms.
