Overview

An interesting episode for the Triumph 1050 Tiger Sport. Trail-sport since the 1200 Explorer took over adventure-GT duties, this machine had something of a "split personality" until the recent emergence of crossovers. Yesterday, it was too sporty for a trail, and too trail for being sporty... Today, it can proclaim and even boast among the segment's showmen, settling perfectly between the Yamaha Tracer and the BMW S 1000 XR. A beneficial upgrade in 2016 brought it responsiveness, marked added value, and full power.

When Euro4 struck, the first version of the Tiger Sport gave way to a version benefiting from numerous developments; directly from the Speed Triple. Including the enchanting 3-cylinder engine which makes up a large part of Triumph's personality. Deeply revised for the roadster, this engine has somewhat calmed down to meet the philosophy of the Tiger but far from becoming boring. With 126 horsepower in the connecting rods and almost 11 mkg, boredom will have no place in the behavior of Hinckley's burner.

The ? Excuse me, THE engine behaviors. This overhaul is accompanied by a generous graft of electronics. In addition to Ride-by-Wire, the English tiger now offers 3 injection maps. Your character is changeable, playful? The Triumph trail's too. It evolves under the influence of Rain, Road or Sport driving modes. Each intervenes in its own way on the engine's reaction as well as on the traction control. This safety net appears on the sport trail and tends to democratize across the entire motorcycle range. And across the entire motorcycle sector in general. Still in the field of prevention, a slipper clutch is installed. Fans of muscular riding will appreciate, rollers will be interested in other treats.

The 1050 Tiger thinks Sport, and for an enjoyable ride as appreciated. It enriches its equipment with a cruise control, hand guards, a series adjustable screen and... Heated grips were announced in the trim but Triumph has ultimately left them as an option. Let's go back to the screen, clearly worked in its shapes, which sees its protection reinforced by two lateral and transparent appendices. The price increases, due to these equipment and the reinforced electronics. The chassis has not undergone any changes. The Tiger Sport manages very well with its perimeter aluminum frame, its inverted fork, its 4-piston Nissin radial calipers, its large 320 mm discs and its superb monobrach. Let's also specify that the seat has been modified for a little more comfort, that the mirrors have been revised, and that the finish is more qualitative with particular attention paid to various parts and day robes. This roadster-trail hybrid is pleasant in many respects but in a slightly too high price range for the category.
