Overview
Remember that era, the early 2000s, when race replicas still had soul. It wasn't just a sticker kit; it was a direct connection to the asphalt of world circuits. In 2002, the factory GSX-R 600, under the yellow and purple banner of Francis Batta’s Alstare team, clinched the Supersport world title. To celebrate this, Suzuki went big the following year by releasing a limited series of 1500 units, the GSX-R 600 Z Alstare Replica. This is a true collector's item, but not a lifeless trinket.

This machine is first and foremost a visual impact. The aggressive fluorescent yellow and purple livery sharply contrasted with the brand's usual blues. The gold rims completed this track-ready look, somewhat ostentatious but terribly effective in asserting its pedigree. Underneath this evocative bodywork, you’ll find the base of the GSX-R 600 from that era, already a benchmark in the world of middle-displacement four-cylinder engines. Its 599 cm3 engine, an inline four with a sharp character, delivered 115 horsepower at 13,000 rpm, with a torque of 67.7 Nm fairly high in the rev range. It was an engine that demanded to be exploited, breathing high-flying performance. The perimeter aluminum frame and equally serious suspension (45 mm fork, monoshock) promised iron precision on the track.
For whom? Clearly, for the enthusiast of pure sportbikes, the one who wanted a piece of history in his garage while having a motorcycle capable of serious performance. With 163 kg dry weight and a race-tuned chassis, it was less versatile than a roadster but much sharper than a standard production machine. Its price, around 9500 euros at the time, positioned it as a desirable object rather than a simple tool. Facing a Yamaha YZF-R6 or a Honda CBR600RR of the time, it played the card of exclusivity and raw sporting emotion, even though, in truth, the mechanical differences with a standard GSX-R were minimal. The essence was elsewhere: in the feeling of riding a piece of legend.
Today, this replica occupies a very specific niche. In collection, its value is solid, supported by its history and rarity. In use? It's a vintage sportbike, with committed handling, a seat height of 83 cm that doesn't spare the back, and an 18-liter tank designed for fast sessions rather than touring. The brakes, two 320 mm front discs, remain effective but require a little more muscle than current systems. This is the charm, and the limit, of machines from this generation: they make no concessions. We love it for that, or we move on. In summary, the GSX-R 600 Alstare Replica is not the easiest or most versatile sportbike, but it remains a moving milestone in the history of superbikes, a vibrant tribute to an era when victory in the World Supersport Championship was celebrated in limited series at dealerships. A true object of passion.
