Overview
Twenty-five candles for the GSX-R lineage, and Suzuki chose to mark the occasion with a series of commemorative models reserved for the British market. After a 750 dressed in 1996 colors, it's the 600 GSX-R's turn to receive the anniversary treatment. But make no mistake, we're not talking about a simple limited production run: exactly 25 units, not one more. A symbolic number that turns each unit into a collector's piece before it's even turned a wheel.

Beneath the special livery, no mechanical revolution. We find the 599 cc inline four-cylinder producing 125 horsepower at 13,500 rpm and 68.6 Nm of torque at 11,500 rpm. The same engine as the standard GSX-R 600, housed in a twin-spar aluminum perimeter frame, suspended by a 43 mm inverted fork and a single rear shock. Braking duties are handled by two 310 mm front discs with four-piston radial calipers. At 163 kg dry, the machine retains that sharp temperament that has always been the hallmark of Japanese 600cc sportbikes. Nothing new under the fairing, then, but that's not where the appeal of this edition lies.
What sets this collector's GSX-R apart are the details that speak to history enthusiasts. A commemorative plate engraved on the fork yoke, a Yoshimura GP Evo exhaust in place of the stock system, a certificate of authenticity. And above all, a livery that doesn't reference just any era: that of the 1999 model year, the year the factory GSX-R clinched the Supersport 600 World Championship in the hands of Fabrizio Pirovano. Stéphane Chambon then repeated the feat the following season. A precise nod to a golden period in Suzuki's racing palmares.
The price tag of 9,683 euros sits in line with a premium 600cc sportbike of the era, with a surcharge justified by the Yoshimura exhaust and the rarity of the series. Against the Yamaha R6, Honda CBR 600 RR, and Kawasaki ZX-6R of the same vintage, the spec sheet doesn't carve out any significant gap. The real value lies in the collection potential. Twenty-five units is rare enough for the market value to hold, or even climb over the years, provided you don't pile on too many miles.
The stinging detail is that this anniversary edition delivers its 125 horsepower unrestricted. Logical for a motorcycle destined for the United Kingdom, where legislation doesn't cap power output as it does in France. French riders could only watch from afar as this capsule series remained reserved for the islanders. For French collectors tempted by an import, the 810 mm seat height and 17-liter tank outline a pure sportbike that makes no concessions to touring comfort. This anniversary GSX-R is aimed first and foremost at those who want to park a piece of history in their garage, not necessarily at those looking for a daily ride.
