Overview
What is the price of an MV Agusta F3 R in 2023? Count on 19,000 euros. A sum that's hard to swallow, granted, but one that buys you one of the last sporty three-cylinders on the market, built by a firm that stubbornly refuses to do things like everyone else. The MV Agusta F3 R replaces the Rosso version in the lineup, and behind this name change lies a series of updates far more substantial than a mere marketing rebrand.

The bulk of the work focuses on braking. The calipers upgrade to Brembo Stylema, a benchmark in the field, the kind of hardware found on superbikes priced much higher. With 320 mm front discs and a single rear disc, the MV F3 R delivers stopping power on par with its 240 km/h top speed. The ride-by-wire throttle has been recalibrated for greater precision, the headlight redesigned, and the rear turn signals converted to LED. Details, yes, but details that matter in everyday riding.
Beneath the fairings, the 798 cc inline three-cylinder produces 147 horsepower at 13,000 rpm and 88 Nm of torque from 10,100 rpm. Euro5 compliance cost it one horsepower, a symbolic loss offset by extensive mechanical refinements: DLC coating on the valves, new bearings, lighter connecting rods, redesigned injectors, a radiator with 5% greater efficiency, and a reinforced clutch. The exhaust system, entirely new, sports a sharper design with its three beveled outlets. This engine remains a piece of mechanical jewelry, with a 13.3:1 compression ratio and a bore/stroke of 79 x 54.3 mm that betrays a decidedly high-revving character. Against a more accessible Yamaha R7 or a more powerful Ducati Panigale V2, the F3 R plays a unique card: that of the three-cylinder, with its throaty sound and a usable torque curve between 7,000 and 13,000 rpm.

The chassis retains the tubular steel trellis frame, the fully adjustable Marzocchi inverted fork, and the progressive Sachs rear shock. The aluminum side plates have been stiffened for improved precision. At 173 kg dry, with a 1,380 mm wheelbase and a seat height of 830 mm, this is clearly a machine built for committed riding, not Sunday strolls. The 16.5-liter tank and a claimed fuel consumption of 6.1 l/100 km provide decent range for a sportbike, enough to get through a full track day without spending half your time in the pits.

On the electronics front, the inertial platform now governs a Continental Cornering ABS, refined traction control, wheelie control, and four riding modes. The third-generation bi-directional quickshifter gains smoothness thanks to a new sensor. The 5.5-inch color TFT display finally replaces the old LCD and connects with the MV Ride app to configure rider aids from your phone. The livery makes a bold statement: bright red on a full black backdrop, a choice that evokes Maranello more than Bologna. More than ten years after the F3 debuted in 675 guise, the lines penned by the Varese design studio haven't aged a day. This MV Agusta F3 R is aimed at demanding riders seeking an exclusive mid-displacement sportbike, one that stands apart from Japanese four-cylinders and Italian twins. At 19,000 euros, it remains expensive for the category, but that's the price of rarity and artisanal craftsmanship that no one else offers in this segment.
