Overview

Imagine a V7 trying to convince you it just stepped out of a team briefing, without ever having turned a wheel on a circuit in its life. That's precisely the delicious paradox Moto Guzzi maintains with this 2024 Stone Corsa — dressed for the occasion, but not really invited to race.

Moto Guzzi 850 V7 Stone Corsa

Since its return to the market in 2008, the V7 has accumulated variants the way other manufacturers accumulate patents. Three generations, around twenty different versions, and always that same 90-degree L-twin poking proudly from the bike's flanks like an Italian calling card. The Stone Corsa sets itself apart from its siblings with a small headlight fairing that gives it a focused expression, a solo seat whose solitary nature is more aesthetic than functional, and a two-tone color scheme that breaks with the usual restraint of the Stone lineup. The fork gaiters are gone, the mirrors migrate to bar-end mounts. Guzzi has also slipped in a black anodized aluminum fuel cap and a personalized plate on the top clamp, small touches that make an impression without inflating the bill.

Because here's the central point: all of this remains strictly cosmetic. The 853 cc engine produces the same 65 horsepower at 6,800 rpm and the same 73.5 Nm of torque at 5,000 rpm as the standard Stone. Some will see a lack of ambition in this; others, a rare commercial honesty. The truth is that this engine doesn't need racing parts to win hearts. Its transverse layout, shaft drive, controlled vibrations, and distinctive exhaust note already constitute a sufficiently singular proposition in a market where roadsters are growing increasingly alike. At €10,199, the price gap over the base Stone remains modest, which puts the investment in perspective for those won over by the styling.

The electronics package holds its own as well: Brembo brakes with a 320 mm front disc clamped by a four-piston caliper, dual-channel ABS, traction control, DRL in the headlight unit. For a 198 kg dry-weight motorcycle positioned in the vintage segment, that's serious hardware. The 780 mm seat height remains accessible for a wide range of riders, and the 21-liter tank allows for generous outings between stops. The 170 km/h top speed won't trouble any sportbike, but that's not the point.

Guzzi organizes "Fast Endurance" races each year on Italian circuits — 60 to 90-minute events contested on V7 850s prepared with the GCorse Racing kit. The Stone Corsa captures the aesthetic of that atmosphere without the performance to match, and wears that posture with complete comfort. The 2020 V7 III Racer pushed the racing style considerably further, with low bars and genuine tension in its lines. The Corsa, by contrast, prefers a relaxed attitude — the Sunday morning clubman rather than the Friday night track regular. Its natural audience is the enthusiast of fine machinery who wants to stand out from the crowd without sacrificing comfort: someone who chooses a Guzzi precisely because it looks like nothing else on the market.
