Overview
For most motorcycles, one constraint is adhering to Euro standards. For the 450 SMR, it looks to FIM regulations. As this has set a noise limit of 109 dB, the 450 SMR adapts to meet this ceiling (EFI modification, injection, airbox, silencer). Fortunately, it loses no power in the process.
Other improvements are on the menu:
With its 450 SMR, KTM holds a true gem of a Supermoto, full of energy and ready to deliver continuous bursts of adrenaline. The SMR is presented as a reference in the supermoto world. Combining state-of-the-art technology with KTM’s proven race engineering, the improved 2026 version offers formidable performance, agility, and power.
Building on the recently updated KTM 450 SX-F 2025, the KTM 450 SMR raises the bar even higher, with key improvements to the frame, forks, and ergonomics.
With its 63 hp, 450 cm3 SOHC engine, the 450 SMR has benefited from a series of updates similar to those found on the recently updated KTM SX-F 2025 range. The most important and significant of these are on the frame, with visible cutouts and changes in wall thickness around the front end, engine mounts, and rear shock mounts.
In addition to a weight gain of 300 g, these structural modifications were designed to improve chassis flex characteristics and cornering behavior while maintaining overall stability. On the latter point, smaller footpegs since 2025 maximize lean angles and reduce the risk of hooking up on track edges.
The 450 SMR is equipped as standard with launch control and a Quickshifter. Launch control limits power to the rear wheel, improving traction and preventing loss of control during abrupt acceleration. To activate it, simply press the traction control and Quickshifter buttons simultaneously.
The 450 SMR’s mapping selector has been simplified, allowing easy selection between the 2 engine maps. Mode 1 offers a more linear power curve. Mode 2 is more aggressive, with a more responsive throttle and explosive power. Traction control can be activated and deactivated easily from the same switch. It guarantees maximum traction and offers an undeniable advantage on slippery terrain.
The 450 SMR also receives a 48 mm WP XACT closed-cartridge fork. This features a central valve piston concept that optimizes oil flow within the cartridge and prevents the formation of undesirable oil foam, preserving damping characteristics. A hydraulic end-stop in the last part of the stroke helps maintain maximum reserves in extreme scenarios, such as larger jumps or hard landings.
At the rear, a WP XACT rear shock benefits from an updated linkage with renewed seals and smaller diameter connecting bolts. The configuration is directly from the KTM Factory Racing team and has been meticulously tested on dirt and asphalt.
In terms of ergonomics, the KTM 450 SMR benefits from tank side panels with bi-composite plastics on the upper and lower flanks. This not only gives it a distinctive look, but also contributes to cooling by channeling air more efficiently.
Regarding air intake, an updated one-piece intake boot and a tuba design prevent deformation, thanks to a more robust and rigid construction, while an updated fuel tank rollover valve protects the frame from wear and improves tank fit.
Above the surface, a fully orange bodywork, with molded red and black graphics, and a more durable black seat provide a cleaner look while communicating the SMR’s pure READY TO RACE intentions.
Like previous generations, the 450 SMR is equipped with Metzeler Racetec SM K1 Supermoto race-ready tires, wrapped around lightweight 16.5-inch front and 17-inch rear ALPINA rims.
Its brakes are worthy of a half-superbike. High-performance components signed by Brembo provide incredible stopping power, with a radially mounted 4-piston M50 caliper and a radial master cylinder holding a massive 310 mm disc at the front. A single-piston caliper and a 220 mm disc provide rear braking.
