Overview
Forty hours in the saddle, over a thousand kilometers devoured on trails that grind men and machines: the International Six Days Enduro doesn't do things gently. That's precisely why the KTM 125 EXC 6 days exists, designed not as a dressed-up production machine, but as a direct response to the demands of a competition that represents one of the toughest on the world calendar. Every year, about half the field lines up on Austrian orange bikes. That figure alone says a lot.

At 94 kilograms dry weight, the Austrian small-displacement bike competes in a category that few competitors dare to frequent with such seriousness. The 124.8 cc two-stroke single-cylinder engine, with its square bore of 54 x 54.5 mm, receives a Boyesen reed valve and reworked piston micro-engraving for 2014. The concrete result: increased responsiveness and reinforced reliability, two qualities that you can’t afford to neglect when the sixth day of racing looms on the horizon with its rocky terrain and heavy legs. The 6-speed gearbox transmits power without a false note, and the airbox accepts a Twin-Air filter replacement in about fifteen seconds, without tools.
The suspension deserves attention. The WP 48 mm 4CS technology fork is a piece in its own right: four distinct chambers, compression adjustment on the left, rebound on the right, a simple principle that allows for fine personalization from the top of the tube, even with muddy hands. For 2014, the valving has been stiffened to handle rutted trails at high speed. The PDS rear shock works in direct engagement with the cast aluminum swingarm, the flex of which has been calculated to the millimeter. The chrome-molybdenum tubular frame, painted in factory KTM orange, combines longitudinal rigidity and torsional flexibility: a balance that is felt from the first few meters in the steering, precise without being brutal.
Brembo brakes receive a completely revised front caliper, with a reduced piston diameter and an optimized lever kinematics. Paired with Toyo B169 sintered pads, the 260 mm front and 220 mm rear offer a controllable bite, valuable when the front threatens to slip in a rocky field. GIANT aluminum 7050 rims, anodized black with Six Days marking, receive MAXXIS FIM tires whose grip and durability are particularly well suited to multi-terrain event profiles. The Supersprox bi-component sprocket, with its aluminum core and steel teeth, is a classic of the genre that has proven itself for years in competition.
At €7,900, the KTM 125 EXC 6 days is clearly positioned above an entry-level machine. This bike is not for the Sunday rider looking for a tame small-displacement bike, but for the demanding competitor who wants a serious base for the ISDE or national enduro events. The 960 mm seat height naturally filters the public. What strikes you is the coherence of the whole: each component speaks the same language, that of a machine designed to finish a difficult race, not to impress when stationary. In this segment, Husqvarna and Beta offer competent alternatives, but few display such clarity between intention and result.
