Overview

Time has been kind to the mid-size Ninja: in 15 years, it has doubled in displacement, gained a much more seasoned silhouette, and approached the A2 power limit with its 45 horsepower. Except in the States, where it produces 51 hp (almost the same in ch) 1000 rpm higher. Here it is now in the half-liter world, where you're not yet a large-cube but where seriousness begins to trace its path. Kawasaki isn’t entering the market with one but two Ninja 500s: the first to enjoy the essentials, the second to appreciate the technological added value.

The segment has become tense. You have to go looking for a brawl with the CBR 500 R, RC 390, CF Moto 450 SR, and Aprilia RS 457. The SE version of the Ninja 500 is there to enhance its presence beyond its performance. In addition to more refined colors (including the essential KRT Replica color scheme), the Special Edition also offers keyless start Kipass, LED turn signals, pinstripes on the rims, a USB-C socket, and a color TFT screen.

As on the standard Ninja 500, the interface can pair with a phone and exchange plenty of things: the Rideology app, information, route logs, call and message notifications. But it must be recognized that the SE’s instrument panel gives a more qualitative dimension and a superior level of digital instrumentation.

The Ninja SE does not have settings or additional power. Engine, chassis, technical specifications, riding position, performance, and motivation are identical. Only a slight weight gain of one kilogram is worth noting. An interesting machine to start showing your teeth in front of the curves. But if you crave a semi-crazy track bike and a close displacement, the distant cousin ZX-4R may tickle your adrenaline box.
