Overview

Twenty-five units worldwide, ten for France, and an entry ticket at 33,000 euros. The Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10RR Winter Test Edition 2024 doesn't play in the league of accessible sportbikes. It targets a handful of collectors who want a piece of the WSBK paddock in their garage.

Kawasaki Ninja 1000 ZX-10RR Winter Test Edition

The concept draws from a tradition well known to World Superbike Championship followers. At the start of every season, the machines hit the track without their official livery. Raw carbon, a few sponsor stickers, sometimes a graphic detail. That's it. Kawasaki takes this aesthetic code and applies it to its production RR, with a livery designed by the factory team's technical department. This is far from a simple sticker pack slapped on at the dealership. Each machine carries a number engraved on a tank emblem, receives a dedicated seat cowl and a certificate of authenticity. Kawasaki's last exercise of this kind dates back to 2016. Only Ducati still plays this game with its Panigale V4 and Streetfighter V4 SP, which gives an idea of how rare the product is.

Under the fairings accented with grey and yellow, punctuated by a discreet snowflake, the mechanical base remains that of the ZX-10RR. The 998 cc inline four-cylinder develops 204 horsepower at 14,000 rpm with 111.8 Nm of torque at 11,700 rpm. A 13:1 compression ratio, a 76 mm bore with a 55 mm stroke — the recipe is proven and tested on racetracks around the world. The notable difference lies in the titanium and carbon Akrapovic silencer fitted as standard. The gain amounts to 700 grams off the scales, half a horsepower and an extra 0.6 Nm around 11,300 rpm. In other words, the improvement is measured more by ear than by stopwatch. But on a 205 kg wet machine capable of hitting 300 km/h, it's the exhaust note that matters.

The aluminium twin-spar perimeter frame, the 43 mm BPF inverted fork with 120 mm of travel and the rear monoshock with 115 mm of stroke form a package built for the track. The radially mounted Brembo brakes with their 330 mm discs leave no doubt about the machine's purpose. The seat perched at 835 mm and the 17-litre tank confirm the agenda: track first, road by accident. Against the BMW M 1000 RR or the Ducati Panigale V4 R, the ZX-10RR holds its own on paper, even though the competition has pulled ahead on electronics and rider aids in recent seasons.

Kawasaki Ninja 1000 ZX-10RR Winter Test Edition

What truly sets this Winter Test Edition apart from the standard RR is the complete package. Kawasaki offers each owner a VIP pass for two to the 2024 WSBK round of their choice. Paddock access, Kawasaki Racing Team hospitality, pit visits, autograph sessions with the riders. For a Superbike enthusiast, it's the kind of experience that justifies part of the premium over the standard RR. The catch is that distribution is limited to France, Italy and Spain, with only five units for the Italians. A calculated scarcity that turns each example into a collector's piece before the first turn of the key.
